Permalink Delay too much…?

New Topic

I love the sound of a good slap back delay, but when I engage my trusty SurfyBear Classic I have a hard time hearing the delay…it basically melts away ….

Is it possible that having Reverb and Delay engaged together is just too much? Especially when the Reverb is drippy for Surf , it just cancels out the Delay?

There are many who use both simultaneously to great affect. I would submit one of the better if not the best of these magicians is Ivan (Space Cossacks, the Madeira).

In short, it boils down to tweaking, listening and tweaking some more. That said, here is a good jump off point for some of Ivan’s tips (and others). Be sure to also click the link in one of the early responses to Ivan’s Ancient Winds recording thread, it’s a real treat!)

PS - I take no responsibility if you end up getting and El Capistan as a result of your quest! (Seriously though, I do think the low end contour controls for the echo/delay are instrumental… being able to adjust that aspect of the delay/echo as you can with the El Capistan is real helpful. Other delays can probably do the same too, that one has just been the king of the hill for a long time in the eyes of many.)

You may hear a lot of delay with heavy reverb on this tune from my EP. So yes, it is possible but takes some effort to tune.
