It should be 4 Ohms for a singlel speaker in a Twin Reverb. Unless it's been reconed with a higher-power basket, it will be very easy to blow in a Twin Reverb. I blew one up in a separate cab powered by a blackface Deluxe Reverb. Pedal steel, I was playing very clean with a volume pedal, and it still blew. I think a K130 would be a better bet. I believe that is what they typically used in the Vibrosonics - which is a Twin Reverb chassis in a 1x15 cab. I use a D120F (12" version) in my Deluxe Reverbs - I don't think there is a better sounding speaker out there than the D-series JBLs. But I have to be careful not to blow it even in a Deluxe, and especially if I want to push it. I had a '71 Twin with two JBL K120s in it. Unbelievable sound, but weighed a TON. Also remember that an original cone JBL D-series is over 50 years old now. To use a 15", you also have to deal with replacing the baffle, as outlined on an earlier thread. —The Delverados - surf, punk, trash, twang - Facebook |

I messaged synchro because he mentioned he put a 15” in his twin but I don’t recall him saying which make/model. I’m trying to get closer to showman territory which I know is virtually impossible with a twin. But i don’t feel like dropping $1k-$2k on a piggyback that would be very underutilized. A speaker upgrade isn’t a terrible thing imo, even two d120’s… surfer joe said 12’s compress more than 15’s and would have better drip anyway Last edited: Jul 03, 2023 07:50:47 |

That Weber Neomag 15 might be an excellent choice. Your back will thank you. —The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

This is not a true statement! They are almost the exact same circuit, and I personally believe it's only the speakers and the closed back cab that make a difference. One thing you could do, if that is your goal, is put the twin chassis in a head and get a Showman cab with a single 15", 4-ohm. OR EVEN BETTER, get a 215 Showman cab with two 8-ohm speakers. I like the sound of that Daniel I like the sound of that a lot… if I can find a way to financially put that together that might just be the move here. I’m a carpenter and have been contemplating building my own heads/cabs but with a baby on the way time is of the essence, so I’m tryna keep cost/time at the minimum. For now I was just looking for a good 15” or two 12”s that work in a twin that can get me closer to my goal. I Appreciate it guys thanks a lot and if you know of any other speakers I could use lemme know Last edited: Jul 03, 2023 11:38:18 |

I had a D130 in my Twin Reverb for at least a decade of gigging with no issues. Only reason I took it out was to convert it to a head with 2x15" bottom. Last edited: Jul 03, 2023 15:08:26 |

If you plan to put the chassis in a head, you can use the stock full length pan by mounting it to the front baffle. BUT you have to modify the baffle - I used 3/8 wood to mount the pan and added blocks to the ends to make it the stock thickness as you can see in this photo |

Oh sweet, so would the pan be on edge horizontally, with the inside of the pan(or the wood it’s attached to) against the grill cover? Last edited: Jul 03, 2023 19:49:04 |

Stay close on craigslist and facebook marketplace and eventually you'll find a cheap 2x15 cabinet, maybe even loaded. This is the best way. Best sound and you can keep your amp how it is and simply swap to the cab when you need to blow down walls. |
