I don't know anything about drums - I've owned one kit, and 1 snare.
I bought a '66 or '67 Pearl kit, and when I tried to join a vintage drum site to learn more, I got told "those aren't vintage, they are just old". Gate keeping for sure. I thought they were cool.
I ran into a chrome Ludwig snare at a thrift store. Bought for $25 with a stand. Convinced it was big money. Turned out to be a basic student snare and made for decades in huge numbers. Sold for $100.

Im in the same boat. i know minimal about drums and when a free, vintage Ludwig was available i was all in.
Side note love seeing the stuff you guys are doing at Texas Toast!

It's all about the journey, man! Don't let the gatekeepers discourage you. Vintage or not, if those drums and that chrome Ludwig snare caught your eye and inspired you, then they're definitely cool in your book.
Sometimes, the best part of the drumming experience is discovering gems like that at unexpected places, like a thrift store find turning into a sweet deal.
And hey, if you're ever looking to explore some unique drum sounds, consider adding a celtic drum like the bodhrán to your collection. It's a traditional Irish drum with a distinct charm and rhythm that might resonate with you.

Agree the snare looks very likely to be a Pioneer. I own a '65. They are great with their own vibe. In the 90's you could pick one up for next to nothing but have increased in value considerably since then. They originally came with 18 strand wires and Ludwig didn't make 18 for a very long time but they do again as of about a year ago. The original wires were held in place together with resin and if that's what's on there, I would recommended replacing them with the new 18-wire Ludwig snares if you plan to play it as the originals are likely twisted badly.

They remind me of the drums I used in high school band classes. I spent 4 years beating on them, as did many other band drummers.
Maybe it’s a set from a high school that got set aside.
Either way I recall them being a pretty sturdy drum kit.
I graduated in 1967. So the age seems appropriate.
