Squier outdoing Fender…?

Outdoing Fender? No.
Better price-quality ratio? Yes.

Recently I bought a Squier Jazzmaster. (https://surfguitar101.com/forums/topic/35653/) It's a lot of fun but took a lot of work to get it set-up properly. Pickups are nice but the the electrics are bad quality. Have already had to replace the lead pickup switch and the input jack.

Good distinction, you make there. I may not be the best sounding board on this subject, because my CV Squier Jag was pretty decent, other than the trem. It’s not perfect, but it’s better than average, for an off the shelf guitar. The GC where I bought it has a full time setup guy, and he may have given it some attention, before I plucked it off the wall.

I actually just acquired a new Squier 60s Jaguar. I don’t have many complaints. You can tell it’s rough, especially compared to my made in California Mustang, but really no other concerns. The tremolo is clicky and not great, so I’ll either grind it or just buy a fancy one to avoid disassembling and reassembling. The fretboard is completely dry and still dirty from the factory Which is pretty funny because the guitar supposedly had an inspection before shipping ha ha ha. The uber light strings were funny too, 9’s on such a short scale. Heavy flats pretty much cured any bridge issues.
I gig guitars all the time. So affordable counts. It’ll get beat to death and no one cares if it doesn’t say Fender from the stage. I even plan to record with it.

I have both and generally I can say that the Fender plays easier because I use flatwounds on that one. Both have had their ailments and I suppose the difference lies in other, smaller things that determine the quality. And the Fender is much heavier than the Squier, implying better wood is used to make the instrument. But I generally agree with Squier having the best price/quality ratio.
