I am here to pay tribute to one of guitar music's greatest, most creative and prolific players, Jeff Beck, who died today.
He first hit my radar in the 90s when my dad brought home the Guitar Shop album and it strongly reinforced my growing love of badass instrumental guiatar music, the appreciation of which I was also feeding with my dad's moldy old Fabulous Wailers album.
Between Guitar Shop and Surfing With the Alien, it was a pretty easy leap to the Best of Dick Dale CD I head playing at a party, which was a moment that totally changed the trajectory of my life in a way.
I think we can all agree that no one sounds like Jeff. It seems like he's been chugging along for decades with less appreciation than he deserves.
He plays the only cover of Sleepwalk that is not on a slide but acceptable. Not just acceptable, but beautiful! He was a true master.
Jeff, this bend's for you!

One of the greats.
RIP
His stuff with the Yardbirds and the first Jeff Beck Group was a big influence on my playing. He was miles ahead of everyone and only kept getting better till the end.

Oh no((( He has influenced me a lot, from his Yardbirds works to experimental album like “Jeff”. Just watched his show with Imelda May recently…
Im I right that his last life release would be the one with Ozzy Osbourne?

One of the earliest solos I ever learned in my beginning guitar years was the one from "Heart Full of Soul". And that solo guitar on Beck's Bolero was an interesting challenge for the rudimentary equipment I had back in the day.
He's one of those people you kind of thought would always be around.
Thankfully - he passed away from an old age ailment - not the drug abuse, suicide, plane crash, or other bad wasteful idiocies of the usual rock stars.
A relatively long life - doing things his way.
RIP, Jeff

I was fortunate to have seen him live in the late 70s for an incredible show..
He was and will always be one of my biggest influences for playing guitar.

I'm just devastated by this news, still struggling to deal with it. I'll tell the story of the pickups I bought out from under JB some time, but not today.
I saw where somebody said JB was your favorite guitarist's favorite guitarist and nothing could be closer to the truth.

If you listen a lot to Beck over the years, you can hear those rockabilly and surf flavours in there. We can claim him as one of us for his Championing of instrumental music IMHO

Here’s his covers of Apache & Sleepwalk.
I only saw Jeff once, in 2006.

Jeff Beck was a hero to me and I wish he was still here. I know that he wasn't everyone's cup of tea but I became a fan when Guitar Shop was released and worked my way backwards through his very eclectic discography.
For a number of years, I did my best to play a Beck-inspired version of Sleepwalk at gigs.
Although I use a Jazzmaster or Jaguar usually nowadays, when I used a Strat for surf, it was my JB artist series Strat that I modified. (replaced the bridge to the Fender Professional series 2-point, dropped-in an entirely new pickguard assembly that I wired up with Duncan SSL-1 pickups and blender tone pot, along with 11-46 TI flats)

He re-kicked me in the butt when he came out with the Big Time Playboys\Gene Vincent record. He is already missed.

Well as soon as he passed away I immediately went to find a new Fender signature stratocaster.
I have always wanted one for years.
I checked all retail stores online and everything is backorder
Going to Fender directly was the same situation, but I placed my name in for notification, should they become available.
Around Jan 24th I got notice and paid for it promptly.
Minute later they were sold out again.
But mine was on the way.
When it arrived I was both thrilled and sadden by his loss.
I dove myself into soulful leads in his remembrance.
I have been a lifelong fan and was fortunate enough to see him live once in the late 70s.
After playing the guitar and being amazed at the quality, later I checked the paperwork, factory inspection dated January 9th.
Jeff passed away on the 11th.
I think I got one of the last made Fender California made guitars before he passed.
I'm never going to sell it.

I’ve come close to buying a Jeff Beck Strat. They are exceptionally good.

Nice guitar, but never could get along with noseless pickups, so just sold it. It was surf green)
