Permalink X'mas gig on a the biggest stage in town which came as a surprise for the Cotton Kids

Happy New year to you all! When the whole city seems to be ill because we are having a huge outbreak, we were busying gigging: first at the Asia Eiffel Tower, and then on one of the largest stages in town for the X'mas and New year countdown event. Only one thing came to mind: psychological imbalance. Well, I told our band members to just stay sound and fit and try our best to enjoy the most out of it. The show must go on ;-))) It was surreal.

So ladies and gentleman, we are trying hard to bring back surf rock to the city. Here comes footages of some of the songs we played.

Of course we had the best sound engineering crew to help us, with the sound check, rehersal, and we were simply treated like VIPs. I think to them, all performers were VIPs, whether you are a local band or super stars from Hong Kong or Taiwan. It was a surreal experience to us The Cotton Kids! Our playlist for the gig that night had metal, hardwork and our own original songs. The government actually called and asked us if we could play surf. So it IS working! Sorry we didn't know we had stage helpers to help us change guitars so we didn't bring our surf guitars. I didn't know they had stage assistants who were ready to give us anything support we wanted, and thought it would waste time swapping guitars, as it was televised and broadcast online live.

To be honest, when Uncle Gary called and asked if we could play on 24th in the evening at the Sai Van Lake, I checked my schedule and I was already scheduled to play at the Parisian on 24th (but very late in the afternoon). Besides, the big stage that Bon Jovi, Linkin Park and Taylor Swift went was at the Venetian Arena, I don’t think I’d be playing there so where would I be gigging at the Parisian?! Last time I saw someone gigging there, it was in the ballroom…anyways, I thought it was busking by the lake. Oh brother. That means I'd have to bring my own mic stands, our drums and amps and all, even the extension cords. I would collapse and would need acupuncture treatment the following day! But, it’s alright. It would be nice to gig, play music and bring people joy via our music during festivals. The girls from our band would have a great time. To be honest, I treasure every single time I get to gig with my kid. Hey, she will be a teenager soon and who knows… when you were a teenager, did you fancy playing music with your old man? But anyways, with temperatures dropping, and I could put on my 30 year old biker’s jacket which can literally stand on the ground. So I replied to our manager, “let’s do it!” It turned out that on Facebook, I saw on a friend’s page that she saw The Cotton Kids would be playing at the Macau Tower year end count down stage! You know, I have been on stages even bigger than this many times to be honest, but this is the first time I set foot on such a stage with my little girl Mina, my own band, not to mention I bring with me my guitar on stage. But, I was thinking of bringing badminton rackets and a volleyball cos the stage was huge. We feel really honored they invited The Cotton Kids to gig here.

The last song was a X'mas song the organizer requested and of course, we played the Ventures version of Rudolph. ;-))) Yes, we have an Eiffel Tower in town at the Parisian Hotel Casino...of course it's a replica but it was just as stunning...

Happy 2023 to you all! Just in case you want non-stop surf rock, Mina has prepared a small surf rock playlist for you. Check it out!
