That's a rare color (on an AVRI) and it appears to be an early "first run" AVRI Jag. Even though it's not cosmetically perfect, it will make a great player for someone! —Jack Booth The Mariners (1964-68, 1996-2005) |

Brian has one, right? The first thing I noticed in the picture was the mustang bridge. doesn't look right and isn't really needed, especially on the AVs of which I think the bridges are pretty great. |

Amen to that Jake When you have the vintage or AVRI bridge setup right there's no need for a mustang bridge or buzz top seriously -Kyle Beyond The Surf YouTube channel |

I have a '99 CAR AV RI Jaguar. I also put on Mustang saddles. They were very much needed in my case. I wasn't gonna file deeper or wider slots in those damn barrel saddles. The low E string was two fat (12's) for the barrel saddle. It would ride on top of a barrel ridge and just buzz. I tried for a long time to go without them, but after a while I got tired of trying to build a ship in a bottle. I wanted to play my guitar not constantly set it up. The Mustang saddles work great and provide more mass that contacts the bridge base than the ridged barrel saddles. I thought I would miss individual height adjustment but I did not. Note that I had to get vintage Mustang saddles because the aftermarket Mustang saddles are made for Japanese reissue Mustangs and they are slightly narrower than what the AVRI requires. —Site dude - S3 Agent #202 "It starts... when it begins" -- Ralf Kilauea |

Well... at least the seller was including the original bridge in the auction. That way if I don't like the Mustang saddles I can just go back to the original. My biggest concern at this point is how I'm going to sneak another guitar past the wife. —The Exotics 1994-Current |

Thanks. gotta love this site. I've been watching jags and Fender Bassman amps/cabs for months now. Can't seem to get a break on the bassman, but the AVRI Jag was priced comfortably. I wanted a different color than the current offering by Fender and I couldn't swing a thin skin, I'm not a fan of the matching headstock anyway. I've been working a lot of overtime this summer and have been having some luck selling my stuff on ebay lately. I needed to reward myself. Now if anyone sees a killer deal on a 64 or 65 Bassman setup.... —The Exotics 1994-Current |

Doh Oh man I wish you luck with the Mrs's, everytime I make plans for any small or big gear purchase I have to sit down and look at the books with the wife and then she gives me the or but she is always very very supportive of my musical instrument ventures, music and my dream The Verbtones, she is such a blessing to also have in the band so she knows what I'm going through and get's to experience what I experience —-Kyle Beyond The Surf YouTube channel |

The wife is pretty cool with my guitar addiction. Her dad is pretty deep in the bluegrass scene and has a few high ticket Martins so she's kind of grown up with it. As long as I'm selling the stuff that I don't use and take care of my responsibilities she doesn't get on me too bad. I have 2 guitars, 2 basses and 2 stompboxes on ebay right now and it looks like they're all going to sell so I should be alright with the Mrs. Besides we still keep a certain degree of financial autonomy. We'll see how long that lasts. —The Exotics 1994-Current |

Yeah, I've been prepping the wife for a near term amp purchase as well. She's also very cool about these things. I don't go too crazy, but I'm getting the itch for a piggy back. —Ryan |

I have a strategy with the wife. FYI She's no dummy, way smarter than me, it's a bit of a slow process, but if there is a piece of equipment that I am interested in I show her pictures and talk about it right away. I've been showing pictures and communicating my interest about a Jaguar and a Bassman for months now. She growns the second I say "Honey, come here and check this out" when I'm sitting in front of the computer. The next step is after a while I outline my financial plan to obtain said piece of gear. This is important because women really appreciate communication above all else. I've been talking about the success of my ebay auctions all week too. When she sees me boxing up my guitars and basses on Monday for shipment it will be a lot easier to introduce the newest member of the family. That being said I recently sold a CAR CIJ Jaguar that I was not happy with. I'm sure I'm going to hear about how I just sold the guitar I just bought. As I write this I'm kind of kicking myself as I have been explaining the differences between a Jag and a JM - she's not catching on quickly. I have an Oly White AVRI JM. Had I purchased an Oly White Jag It wouldn't be an issue. —The Exotics 1994-Current |

I'm a masochist, I never think real hard about this stuff, I mean to, no really I do, it's just that I get bug eyed or something, maybe even tunnel vision and just buy stuff, then the fallout comes. Not all the time mind, just more often than not. |

The Jaguar came yesterday. I did a quick, basic set up with some 11s - I'm no tech and it didn't too much work. Mostly it was the tremolo tension that was hosed up. The guitar is a real honey. Thanks to Iron Maiden for the tip. —The Exotics 1994-Current |

Nice score, jp. Regarding the saddles, the originals don't fit 12s too well, so I swapped the two E saddles (high E to keep things symmetrical) on my AVRI with two of the replacement saddles from my 52 Tele. Works great. |
