Hello everyone,
the sad state of rental cars theses days is no more Cd players.
road trip radio is awful!:>:> tried a portable cd player that
works but cumbersome.(no co-pilot) yet on my recent Cal vacation
i got 12 surf cd's at Amoeba(Burbank).

I need advice please. what device to get to use pandora/spotify?
New 2022 mp3 player(black friday) used Ipod 8(craigsl) or
$80.00 android phone from wallyworld:>(i'm not a cellphone user).
I'd start by copying some of my 1st,2nd,3rd wave Surf CDs/bands.
I'm a humble cd playin' hodad-this modern tech stuff confuses me:>.
Thanks in advance,
gary

I have copied all of my cd's to the computer and loaded usb flash drives with the music. If there's no usb port, I'm done. Smile

I do the same as wfoguy with iTunes.

No usb in these cars? If they are not too old you may record music to flash drive and stream music form it or just connect you phone. In my car this is the only way and I am pretty happy with Apple Music.

Not a cel phone user!!???? Hat's off to you. I use Itunes on the phone. But I will be switching to Android soon and don't have a plan for music. I may just use my old phones as ipods.

It's easy to transfer a CD and make mp3s, so for you I'd say get an mp3 player (ipod or other) and throw the surf on there. You'd have to connect to the car stereo by bluetooth. Or just throw the mp3s on a USB drive and plug that into a modern car. Most have both USB and bluetooth. My car has neither!

I went the portable CD player route,For when I travel far.
For around town n work driving I’m usually listening to talk radio(yes I’m old).Or music on the Sirius/xm receiver I have in the truck.

Realize you said no cell phone but that is what I use. Not a connected one but an older one with lots of storage space and an mp3 app. The reason for this instead of the flash drive is because the wife can't tolerate my preferred surf tunes. She says it is like something bouncing around inside her head. The old cell phone with ear buds solve the problem. It has an added benefit of not hearing her talking, unless I want to unplug. Driving 3-4 weeks on a long vacation can get sort of boring without the traveling music. I actually take two phones loaded with different kinds of music. Using the old cell phone also saved the expense of buying an Ipod.

Cannot stop trying to imagine life without cellphone and not really successful yet) But then yes, needs some unusual solution like portable CD or whatever. But cheap mp3 player maybe even better if they are still made.

Slightly aside, my car came with USB. Great! I'll load everything onto an external drive! Except... Not only is there somethung like a 17000 song li mit, the car indexes the entire drve every time you start the car. So it would never play anything unless it was a very long trip, and then only from part of the drive. Now I just use a thumb drive and keep it undrr 1000 songs.

I just love Apple Carplay for music and not only. Easy, fast and seamless.

My partner recently subscribed to Spotify. I was quite intrigued and a part of me was looking forward to discovering new bands and music. Chance would be a fine thing - it seems no matter what we start listening to within a few songs we are listening to Elton John, George Michael, whatever main label artist is to hand. I'm disappointed that it's so hard to find anything new - it seems to play the same Top 40 songs I've been listening to for the last 40 years.
So I wouldn't recommend Spotify.

My choice would be an mp3 player. An iPod nano 4th or 5th generation with a new battery. Nothing beats actually owning your music rather than relying on a stream. You can set up your music into playlists for whatever mood you might be in, you can shuffle for a random experience, and if the worst comes to the worst, it even has an FM radio!

I play this Spotify playlist all summer long and never hear the same surf tune twice. Over 285 hours nonstop.

Hello,
Thanks to all. no cell-can't justify the expense versus the number
of calls i get. da-ron i agree want to ownmy stuff:>:>
120+ cd's 10 lp's and yes... 6-8 surf music cassettes!
I'm gonna look at mp3 players first before i look at
cheepo wallyworld phones.
Thanks again,
Gary
