Permalink Songs with good basslines you'd recommend

New Topic

I’ve lately been playing more bass than guitar, and I’ve been re-learning the songs I worked out in the past. Some have really nice basslines IMO.

One is Catalina by Jon and the Nightriders. The song is intro, A, B, A, B, outro, and the bassline of the B sections is really nice and contrasts with the simplicity of the guitar part. I also like Rumble and Walk, Don’t Run.

Any other songs you’d recommend as having nice basslines?
Thanks.

If I'd stop buying old guitars to fix, I might actually learn to play.

I love this version and the bassline is the best part. It swings like a MOFO:

It's also cool that it's an example of his sound before he got the reverb and before he broke his whammy bar.

If we are talking not only about the surf stuff, I really love basslines in The Cure, Sisters of Mercy and some other 80th darkwave/newwave bands. Also this style of prominent melodic basslines goes really well with some surfy instrumental stuff.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I think the bass in the Insect Surfers tether the songs. They are rock solid grooves that the guitars can spin out over. Black Sea is one of the best
