I never had a chance to compare, but US is a killer)

Jeff,
So far (headphone eval only) my favorites are the '57 and the '61 * - either with the "Norm" cab emulation but I also like BRT with the '57. If not overdriven it's got some nice meat that will cut above the mix, like a 50w Bassman if you want to use a Strat to get your Buddy Holly on. So far, wanted to keep it objective so no pedals in front of the unit yet. I need to get a simple decent single 10" enclosure and this will be my noodling around the house setup into the afterlife. Cool

You're familiar enough with Quilter's approach that you won't be surprised when I say that the tone controls REALLY work and do stuff. The on-board Reverb is Very good. Have fun.

  • The '65 isn't "bad" it's just not my favorite since I have a benchmark of a lovely '65 Princeton in mind so that bar is pretty high. Smile

I’ve never played a Princeton or other Blackface, I think that is why I like 65 in Quilter so much)))

Thanks for the reviews and impressions Wes, Mike and Vitaly!
I'm thinking both units would be great to have in my shop/showroom to provide a variety of sounds to players that stop by to check guitars out...without turning on all my tube amps, ha ha.

Hey Jeff,

Both would be ideal. I really think Quilter hit it out of the park with these Superblocks. When I’m not going direct, the US sounds great through a Green Based cabinet with a Warehouse Guitar G10CS speaker. The reverb is ok for ambient type sound, but not drippy. My fave voicing is the 57 with the normal 12” cabinet voicing. I have also used it for recording with a Fender tank in front of it. It takes reverb and pedals really well.

Actually, I think that would be a genius purpose for both of those. I can see some "Nashville cat" just grabbing a guitar or two, a couple of pedals with a Superblock on the board next to them and being pretty self-contained.

Wishing you all the best down there in what I've learned was (very briefly) the State of Franklin.

Reverb is ok, but I surely would prefer a tremolo onboard)

Thanks guys!
Wes, you suggesting I had a "genius purpose" for any design just made my day, Ha Ha.
We'll see how much longer I can talk myself out of these great, little devices.
Probably not much longer.

I just remember from pics you've shared you have some neat little speaker cabs sitting around that would raise their hand to perform demo-duty with a little Quilter.
