Way back in September 2015, I posted this information in a thread where it was lost to the ages. It was my 25th post on SG101. I found myself thinking about it today and decided to give it a bump. I guess Spotify would now be the cheapest way to listen to these tracks, but if you like owning CDs (remember CDs?, how quaint.) here is a guide to collecting the best. The albums listed are still available on Amazon. The Lost Legends can be purchased as MP3, the rest are only available as CDs. Another CD that is worth hunting down is Rhino's Legends of Guitar Volume One, Surf - It adds "Mar Gaya" by The Fender IV and "Bombora" by The Original Surfaris. If you find the Rhino Cowabunga! The Surf Box for a good price, grab it!
The other benefit of reposting this information is that a lot of new members have joined over the last six years and may be unfamiliar with the old North Sea Surf Radio / SurfGuitar 101 Top 101 Classic Surf polls. Nearly everyone is familiar with the top twenty tracks, they are the hardcore classics the make up the foundation of surf music, but the rest of this list allows for a deeper dive into surf and may introduce someone to a new favorite song. I'll also mention my Classic Instrumental Surf Music Timeline for anyone interested in adding some context around these tracks.

The understated fact here is this: if you want original copies of big name first wave surf, you need to look in the 45s. And look hard because aside from Wipe Out, Surfin Bird and a few others, it's not common.
There are some great surf LPs but a bunch of the best surf songs are by bands that only had a few 45s.
Compilations are very worthwhile unless you're very patient and willing to dump a lot of money. For instance Margaya runs about $500

CDs, yes, were nice) My last stand was my car, but in the new one no CD player, but there is Apple CarPlay) So yes, Apple Music and Spotify. But I will surely miss it.

I find Youtube has a much better selection of obscure music than Spotify, so that is my main source of online listening. I pay extra for no ads. I tried Apple Music on their trial plan and it had almost nothing I want to listen to. Bummer, since i would love to just pick a service and use it. Maintaining my own library of mp3s I have ripped from CDs is a hassle, too. What a weird future we are in!
