Hello!
I have a SurfyBear Classic and love it - except for one detail. The power lamp has burned out two times! I'm using the power supply which it came with, and I have it plugged into a surge protector power strip in an outlet which has not caused any other problems. The lamps have lasted about 2 weeks and then suddenly are stop working.
I did, of course, ask Surfy Industries about this, and the tech support said "this shouldn't happen, we will send you a new lamp". The replacement lamp is appreciated, but I would like to get to the bottom of this!
Has anyone else had this happen? There is very little I can see to check on the circuit board, but I am comfortable using a multimeter, or soldering a resistor in place or anything else that may help. I don't really NEED the lamp to be functional, since the power status is pretty clear otherwise, but on a $400 unit this is a little disappointing.
Thanks for any suggestions if you have em!

Ask them to replace the whole thing. There is clearly a problem with it and they are decent people.

Think how lucky you are, it’s only a reverb unit
Sometimes you buy a 2000$ fender amp and the bulb burns periodically too.
We offered to help and to GET to the bottom of this. So why complaining?
Also for what I have understood the bulb you replaced was not the correct one.
Replacing the unit: did you register for warranty?

Yes Jon, we are decent people.
Most companies don’t even answer the emails so I can CONFIRM we are decent people. And everybody gets help every single time.

Hi there-
I hope this didn't read as a complaint! I am trying to resolve this on my own, if possible, since I do NOT want to ask to have the unit replaced. That would be a little silly. I did write in for tech support, and the response that I got was that "this shouldn't happen" but there was no further inquiry into what is going on, just an offer to replace the lamp. I did express appreciation for this, and actually said I did NOT want warranty service.
My thought was that among the hardware heads here, perhaps someone had an idea to help troubleshoot.
I'm very sorry this read as a complaint - it would hopefully read as an attempt to gather more information and take care of some of my gear instead of wanting to send it back over a pretty trivial issue.
Good vibes,
rob

It didn't sound like a complaint to me...and even if it was (which is wasn't), you were simply asking if anyone else had this problem.
Nothing to apologize for.

Yes Frank, the bulbs for the SurfyBear Classic are 12V 100mA with an expected life of 10000h.
Most amps have 6V bulbs. When using one of those in a SB they well break quite fast.
rfcii, we have sent a replacement bulb to you, that will most certainly solve the problem.

I can attest that Surfy Industries has the best customer service in the industry if not anywhere. Even better than Chick-Fil-A. Ted will take care of you well if you are Stateside

I have a Surfybear reverb, one of the original models. I honestly did not know it had a light. Not gonna dig it out to verify, but if you had asked me yesterday, I would have said, "No, it does not."
Generally speaking, I just listen for the syrupy reverberation and then I can tell if it is on or not. I mean, a pilot light is super cool, though, no doubt. Not sure I would take this to a public Internet forum, however, since the company is Johnny-on-the-spot usually RE support via email.

Nice, a supplier getting defensive when a customer has a legit question about their purchase.

Considering this is the place where the SurfyBear project was born, yes. SurfGuitar101 people are our family. I guess you are new ;) Welcome to the forum.
