I like the Ventures music, they came up with a whole lot of good sounds, it's just that for me, other bands doing covers of their music, do it better.
BTW you blokes aren't too shabby either...

I love the Ventures (what I know of them based on a comp I have, which does have a nice sampling of a couple of dozen tracks or so). I just think the problem comes when they are considered a surf group, usually by people who don't really know what surf music is. So maybe some fans of true surf music have a negative reaction and don't want to admit they like them. Perhaps it's not considered cool in some circles to like the Ventures or something? I am especially captivated by the drumming of Mel Taylor. Just superb taste and feel IMHO. |

To play with the <Ventures Style...you must be listen with a lot of patient the guitar strings....with all the prticulars arreglemnts..this srreglements there very dificukt to find in a normal guitar tuning... A lot of Ventures songs are plyed with difernet tunings (country steel tunning..maybe) and it,s the better swing-surf drumer... I know that you like to play Ventures...you mus t be perfect with sound..and specially..with the mos fine arreglemnts.of the texture of the song.... It,s comply dierent Longbards sound....but it,s exciting..you have to go too Wbminister and catch your copy.... I dont really love the Ventures. Although I found a bunch of their old records which were pretty good. I find the Ventures to soft and gimmicky. I really like this one old 45' of thiers with two versions of "The 2000 pound Bee". |

Yes I undertund when you said that the Ventures are to soft and gimmcky. relly your true..... My surfer friends in Europe...love Ventures a lot.. But only thE first Ventures of course....relly old Ventures sound better...the rest of the Ventures are too much slwoly??...and so bored to me too I hate play Ventures a lot..(SO BORED only a couple of songs To show the people how must to play this songs the Ventures ..with more energy and identic style)......i only love play identic Ventures becouse the guitar style is very dificult to get in the TOTAL IDENTIC style.... i hate the modern style of drums....too of drums and guitars and sounds...i hate the modern styles... only love to 58-65... i don,t understund the modern styles..i don,t understund Jimmy Hendrix...sorry ..I hate Jimmy..and the music after Jimmy And love 63-68 Spanis instrumental bands to..Relampagos,Sonor, Pekenikes.. I had a long talk with the Ventures last night, and we all agreed to remain "just friends" for now. We will probably see other people, but we'll keep in touch. I have to admit, that even though we are "just friends", I still have a strange infatuation with Mel Taylor...

Ventures have always been near the top of the heap of my favorite instro bands ( or any bands for that matter ). When I was a mere yougster, they were the major influence in my taking up playing guitar. Yes ,I agree, WDR and Perferdia have been covered so many times that if i never heard them again that would be fine. But if you have a handful of their albums there are plenty of other tasteful tunes to work with that will teach you song structure and melody. Yes.. the Ventures.. Surf guitar and beyond to all things in instrumental guitar. I have most of their arrangements and music in print.. (thanks Japan).. Last time I looked at my songlist database, I had between 75-100 of their tunes down - from their most heard to the special nuggets to the really lame album fillers. So I guess I kinda like them.. |

I love the Bob Bogle/Don Wilson/Nokie Edwards/ Mel Taylor version of the Ventures. That's my all-time favorite band. But, I sure wouldn't call them a surf band. |

YES OK.....if you listen our album Big Surf.you can listen the rythm guitar... But at live...we play with a only guitar... becouse I don,t find a perfect second guitar to Longboards... Longboards don,t play with normal tunings in the guitars... I play with a lot of strings free and sound like 2 guitars.. I normaly use Hawain steel tunng.and originalblues steel tuning.. but..first i listen the cover a lot...and surch the tuning...in the past the guitars.....play with other forms.... You can listen Link Wray..he sound with distortion ...witout pedal .. I,ll go t put here...a Lik wray vcover...i spend a lot oftime surching the perfect sound of the strings... To jeff....I hate play with 2 guitars..!!
