Maybe I am the only person on this forum who likes these little recording and berdoom amps but this is a nivce deal on a terrific little amp.
Not quite a 6V6 but the tone on these is nice and growly Chicago bluesbox.

You can't go wrong with an American PTP amp for $99... and theese Harmony's are very well made - solid compnents and a jensen speaker.

Do you have one of these? What is the wattage? I am looking for something like this, but more for live use. I'm always in pursuit of that raspy 50s r&b/black rock guitar sound. I have a Fender Pro Jr that comes close, but is a bit underpowered for a 7 piece band.

Look for an old silvertone 20 watt or larger amp head. They made them at least up to 100 watts. you'll get that sound. I'm not suggesting this is a good price, in fact it's really high, but this is the first one I ran across looking for an example of a larger one http://cgi.ebay.com/VINTAGE-HARMONY-SILVERTONE-VALCO-2x12-TUBE-AMP_W0QQitemZ190136645476QQihZ009QQcategoryZ121161QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Watch the prices for a week or so, and you'll figure out what a good deal is...

Thanks for the tip. I have been looking around Milwaukee for a clean valco, supro, magnatone or one of their relateed offshoots for a while now.

I play guitar in two bands and the gear I use for my surf/instro stuff is just not gritty enough for my R&B band and the addition of an overdrive pedal sounds more '74 rather that '54.

the quest continues.

Check this one out - Pair of 6V6's and a 12" jenson - Plus Vibrato. This will sound GREAT for that "Chicago Blues Box tone" It is basically a Deluxe Circuit with Tremolo and a Thinner Cabinet. The lighter Cabinet gives them the nice "Hollow tone" and the Harmony's really HONK!

If you can get this amp for anything lesst than $300 it will be a dead steal IMHO! - JC

yeah I saw that one. keeping my fingers crossed.
thanks,
Jon

It's kind of hard to see that Harmony H-189 in the eBay listing - here's a link to another couple Photos. The H-189 is in the upper right hand corner there is a front and rear photo of it

http://harmony.demont.net/amps.php

Don't expect much volume out of this little amp - and those old tubes might be hard to find - I'd try to find out more about it first - there is a sort of diminishing returns when you get into the pre 1960 guitar amps - they become more Collectible and less useable - not all but some. It just depends on the amp - obviously a 57 or 59 Deluxe is gonna be a great amp - but a 1952 National or 1949 Gibson BR-6... hmmmm... not so sure about gigging out with one of those.. - JC

That amp looks like it would sound great with some pencils stuck in the speaker!
