Permalink The Kilaueas are sick of surf music...

New Topic
Goto Page: 1 2 Next

Hi folks,

I just want to announce that The Kilaueas, my band for 21 years decided to stop with playing surf music anymore.
We think, at last no one is truly interested in this all..
At forums like here, no one is really interested (ok, 2 or 3 people maybe...)
At facebook in so called "surf music" groups there are senseless posts with bad mobile phone live videos, cheap girl pics with thousands of clicks and so on...
The production quality of surf music albums is going worse every year..

We decided to go on with a mix, a kind of Indie/Punk/Hardcore/BlackMetal/Surf. We are looking for a sexy singer girl who gets people to gigs.
I already composed about 10 new tracks for this new project.
We will keep the bandname maybe.

Thanks for all the support and love over the years!

Twang cheers!

Probably a good idea - the only guitar music relevant today comes from youtube "shredders".

Yes, you´re right. Smile

...can I come to USA and join your band?

I can't wait for you to release some rap nu metal surf. Do you have turntables yet?

sorry, I decided to quit music outright. We were a dreaded Strat playing power trio anyway - so good riddance. Also I realized how much beer money I had tied up in instruments.

Cool. Yes, I´ve ordered two turntables yet. Two naked girls will handle this.
I think we start with some Phil Collins cover songs. This is Nu Metal Rap? I think so.

Twang cheers!

I've been thinking I could combine drum, bass and guitar backing tracks together. It saves so much time from practicing. More time for watching reality TV!

I agree! Rap is making a huge comeback and we're going where the money is. Either that or country music. I hate both but music has never been about integrity and art. Big Grin

What is todays date by the way? Whatever

My new country band is practicing tomorrow. Bringing 9 players in I've never met. Wish us luck!

Great idea!!
This new type of music will also be good for social distancing.
Almost as effective surf music is.

So you are switching to punk/metal? To get more people? Laughing

It's about time you people are waking up. With rhythm guitarists on the extinction list, stage shorts, flip-flops, and the ubiquitous use of power chords and reverb kicks, this music has been left without a sail in a hurricane.

I gave up awhile back, myself. I'm in the process of selling all my guitars except for one that I'll keep just to remind myself of the good 'ole days. It's my Alembic Custom Shop Mustang copy with humbuckers. I'll likely keep my Marshall short stack, too (just so I can hear that Alembic when I try to play it), but everything else...bye bye.

So, to all the current crop of surf instrumental bands, have fun continuing to play to that forest of 9 or 10 video cameras set up in front of the stage. Some day, all those videos will actually be watched. Some may actually find their way to YouTube so the other 43 fans around the world can see what you did.

So, good for Ralf and the Kilaueas for realizing the truthiness of surf music's future. Can Lorenzo be far behind?

Actually I have been curious about instro/rap lately. A lot of great stuff once you get past the profanity and crudeness that isn't spoken.

You could go with one of my originals from about ten years back, "The Great Surf-Disco Trainwreck."

If of course I can remember how it went.......

Always trying to be helpful,

Traditional........speak softly and play through a big blonde amp. Did I mention that I still like big blonde amps?

Surf show crowds are always at max capacity, why would you want to give that up?

I always wondered how The Penetrators Worship managed to get their instro album marked [Explicit] on Amazon. I guess they were just ahead of their time.

SG101 had a great article on Golf Music on this day many many years ago. Thanks to WR and Stormtiger. I took it down and I don't think I have a screenshot. Does anyone??

PS I love you Ralf!

If it doesn’t make you happy anymore, fine. Stopping because “no one cares” is a specious reason. Good luck in the future.

EDIT: Please make surf rap a thing.

The Penetrators were way ahead of their time. They wrote the book on marketing and promotion. Rip and crew won an award early on with their clever website. I'm not sure when the site went up, but it was and still is one of most clever and original ideas I can remember crossing paths with. Maybe Trace or Sticks can shed some light on this.
