Los Straitjackets have done a pretty good version of the big-band classic Sing, Sing, Sing. I'm surprised I didn't see that before today.

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

Wadadli Riders have just released a surf revisited version of TETSUWAN ATOMU, Japanese cartoon of the 60s also called Astroboy. Check it out!

Others comin' easily to my mind are the Finnish Charades with many revisited versions of classics like Pink Panther Theme, a nice 60s Italian beat song called Nessuno Mi Puo' Giudicare (fantastica!), More (Frank Sinatra version) and so many others.

What about the many Ennio Morricone dedicated compilations? There is one produced years ago by Dancing Bear (Dalibor of Bambi Molesters) called "For A Few Guitars More" which is by far my favourite.

Another good comp was also "Jesus Christ Surferstar" produced by OmOm, lots of people in there, 2 CDs, plenty non-surf songs transformed in surf instros. That one is fun!

Lorenzo "Surfer Joe" Valdambrini
(www.surfmusic.net)

We (the Boardwalkers) had worked up about 12 songs that Screaming Apple records had us line-up for a "Surfin' in the 70's" album.

Of course it fell through.

What I remember we would occasionally bring out in public...

Iron Man
Black Dog
Moby Dick
Heartbreaker
What is and what should never be (still around today)
Smoke on the water
Magic mystery tour (60's )
Ride the Sky (Lucifers Friend, where Page stole Immigrant Song from)
Lucifers Friend (title song from the hit record)
Third Stone
La Grange
The previously mentioned Pink Floyd medley

Some of it was Surf style. some not.

I know there is more but man, what a long strange trip it's been playing with guys like Dan Valentie and Dave Arnson...

Wouldn't trade it though.

Jeff Utterback

We do or have done over the years a bunch of non-surf tunes turned surf, among others:

France Gall's "Poupée de cire, poupée de son"
Elvis' "Viva Las Vegas" and "Burnin' Love"
Dion & the Belmonts' "I wonder why"
Madonna's (!) "Material Girl"
Johnny Kidd's "Shakin' all over"

Smile I really like the song "Green Peppers" that SP's covered. Also "If I were a Rich Man" "S'vivon" by MBP, well atually alot of ther stuff really kicks ass. RAs cover of Ricky Nelson's "Travelin' man". The ventures version of "Hungarian Dance #5" or i think they call it "Rap City". PDM do "Peaches and Regalia" by Frank Zappa. But there's too many to name, But for me personally I prefer non surf songs covered surf style then some band covering a surf classic. Still cool but I like something different. Razz

The Deadbeats

Los Tiki Phantoms "Tiki on me" is a surfy cover of the 80's A-ha tune
http://www.myspace.com/lostikiphantoms

I do this surfed up version of Paint it Black. It's not real hard to turn that song into a surf instro.

yeah I have at least 3 or 4 cds by bands covering "Paint it Black"
Lava Rats from SF are the first that come to mind.

Jeff(bigtikidude)

"And then I kissed him" or "her", depending on your preference.

heh, it doesn't matter, instros aren't gender specific.

Just had Lemme Take You To The Beach fall into my grubby paws. What a hoot!

What a great restart. Now I have to read the whole thing so I don't just repeat what others have posted. Big Grin Good fun! Thanks, Greg. This will be a wonderful read.

This is Noel. Reverb's at maximum an' I'm givin' 'er all she's got.

Nice show, Ferenc and sponsor ... Radio-free Baking Powder? That can't be right. Remind me to look them up.

I like the unprofessional DJ thing. So much more exciting.

Thanks. Ferenc originally wanted to do this with another DJ at some point, but said DJ wasn't interested. If anyone is interested as to the name of said DJ, Paypal me some money!
