So what are some of you guys' non-surf cover songs that you rework and/or reverb-up into surf tunes?

I immediately thought of Satan's Pilgrims - The Godfather I'm stuck thinking about movie themes I guess. edit: Shit, didn't really read the question. I haven't personally re-worked any non-surf songs —Science friction burns my fingers. |

Well, like Los Straitjackets and The Ventures, I have a few Christmas songs that I "surf up" and play around the holidays. I also got turned on to playing surf versions of Misfits songs when I first heard The Crimson Ghosts. I tried it with a few Ramones songs, too, and then I found that Ramonetures album. That was quite a while ago, though. |

Aside from Henry Mancini's "Baby Elephant Walk," as MikeG has named, another Mancini tune I plan to surf guitarize is "Pink Panther Theme." Other instrumentals I plan to arrange as surf guitar tunes... "A Swingin' Safari" - Bert Kaempfert & His Orchestra Matt in Indiana —Fast Cars & Loud Guitars! |

I heard "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun" on the radio the other day and thought it would make a great surf instro song. Apart from that, my trio does "Beat Girl", which may already be considered surf and "Call Me." There are alot of old standards that I think sound great when drenched in reverb. I don't think I'd play them at a surf show, but I do enjoy playing them at home with reverb tank splashing away. Songs like Ebb Tide, Moonlight Seranade, Shangrila etc. A good melody loves reverb and vise versa. |

i like the instrumental on Devo's "Gut Feeling"... I also dig all the different Neil Young surf-style covers out there, as well as the surf-style cover of BOC's "Don't Fear the Reaper"... I think a few Clash tunes would make real nice reverberated instrumentals... -dp |

Girl Talk and Peaches en Regalia are two of my favorite Pollo songs. They sound so great. |

The Mariners recorded "Searchin' My Soul", which is the theme from the old Ally McBeal TV show. Shakira's "Objection Tango" and The Go-Go's "Vacation" will be on our upcoming CD which we hope to release early this Fall. Since the late 90's we closed our live show with Billy Idol's "White Wedding" HulaHounds also play "White Wedding" (it's on the CD), The Cars' "My Best Friend's Girl", and Audioslave's "Like a Stone". Both bands cover several Ventures instro versions of vocal tunes. —Jack Booth The Mariners (1964-68, 1996-2005) Last edited: May 08, 2006 12:22:40 |

The songs reminded us of Pepsi Generation commercials from the late 60s/early 70s. I think only "Music to Watch girls By" was actually used by Pepsi. fd —Buy Speed of Dark @ Bandcamp |

Not familiar with the Dave Edmunds arrangement, but ours is fairly traditional with a pumped up pipeline-type rhythm. Paul |
