I believe this is where Emilio learned his version:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=23y-hUm8dZo
I felt the original recording ("Rod Hot Rod") was way too cheesy with female background singers, and the title was a bit off-putting (but the tune, itself, was very cool with some nice chord changes), so I changed the title to something a little more "surfy," but left the writing credits alone. Here's the original single out of New Mexico (recorded at Norman Petty's studio), which was also released nationally on the MGM label:

Absolutely right, John!
Based/inspired in the one from Jon & The Nightriders and the one from The Kilaueas ... forgot to detailed it here (cause we are all Surf Music maniacs ... lol), but addressed in the description. Cool to know about the historic background and the name change. Love to play it live.

"Rumble At Waikiki" was another one that was included in the setlist a few years ago.

Here’s a little history on this song that I came across.
Songe d'Automne was originally written by Archibald Joyce in 1908 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Archibald_Joyce). Here’s a piano version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Q_dT_yJ8ec.
At some point, lyrics were written by Sigrid Elmblad and it was called Höstdrömmar (Autumn Dreams). Here’s the label of a 78 RPM record sung by Carl Holmberg from 1951: http://www.45worlds.com/78rpm/record/7598 (it’s the B side, you’ll see the label farther down the page). You can hear a sampling of the vocal here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MCYBTK5/ref=dm_ws_tlw_trk20.
It was performed in 1961 as a guitar instrumental by the Sven-Ingvars Kvartett (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sven-Ingvars). Here’s the song on Youtube: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Mf3jNLxAeI and you can tell from this where The King Pins got their song, even though the label says Bill Sego wrote it.

There are quite a few examples of older, foreign or classical pieces of music that were translated into modern teen guitar instrumentals (many of them retitled and given "new" writing credits). "Force of Gravity" is one out of many that immediately comes to mind.

A tune I always liked ... mighty and emotive at the same time.
I like your version of this song. Very funny drippy.
When we recorded it in 2005 I knew the Sven Ingvar version and the Nightriders version of course.
I always thought it is original by Sven Ingvar. The old guitarist from Los Venturas sent me the version of Sven Ingvar back in those days.
I love the Archibald Joyce piano version! Thanks to those links! So nice to hear!!! Will check out more stuff from Archibald Joyce.
Yes, the Nightriders "Force Of Gravity" is also a nice adaption of Dvoraks "Symphony No9 "From The New World"!

Such a great song, and I really like your version. Three guitars! Cool. Lead, rhythm, and a drippy muted one. They were all forward in the mix. Echoing comments above, bring the bass forward. With earphones, I had to strain to hear it. The walking bassline in the chorus is really nice and needs to be heard.

Idk, thanks for the extra info ... I knew about Sven-Ingvars Kvartett but no about Archibald Joyce ... thanks! ... seems that over the years the melody has been appreciated and in 2020 is still making people happy ... so cool! There is a chain of references back in time ...
