10-4 on that. My son in Colorado is a multi-talented fellow who happens to be very good with a snow shovel.

Actually the idea for the shoot wasn't something I concocted just to stir Ivan up. I "borrowed" the idea from the cover of Chet Atkins Christmas album, which after all these years, is still one of my favorite recordings. While we were visiting with him for Christmas last year, I just happened to have that cover in my hands at the time, and with all that fresh snow on the ground, I just couldn't resist myself.

Cool

Eddie, I did this pic as a joke during a snow storm that briefly interrupted my playing time once again demonstrating the magnitude of the Stratocasters universal abilities! Why everyone isn't playing a strat leaves me shaking my head in bewilderment Big Grin

Here are my American '60s reissue Strats: 1) 2004 Foam Green Custom Shop NOS '60; 2) 2009 Ice Blue Metallic '62 AVRI; 3) 1997 Shoreline Gold Metallic '62 reissue (with 1984 neck); 4) 2012 Dakota Red '65 AVRI (with 1986 '62 reissue neck); 5) 1988 Black '62 reissue. All are amazing!

Wow, that's a nice color pallete! You have more strats though don't you?

I do. There are also these three: my workhorse fiesta red '87 Strat Plus, I've had it since '90, heavily modded over the years but also heavily used with the Space Cossacks, the Madeira and the Blair-Pongracic Band. That guitar has done three European tours. In the middle is my Jade Pearl Metallic 2012 American Standard with a brand new Wudtone trem. And on the right is my partscaster that i used with the Coassacks in 2016: Pewter Metallic Fender Eric Clapton signature body (super light and resonant) with a Callaham trem, Rocketfire handwound pickups, and '87 MIJ Contemporary Strat neck with Schaller locking tuners. All three of these are hot-rodded in some way, not just '60s specs, but all three amazing Strats that I love. I also have two US-made Schecter Strats, both amazing, and three '85-'89 MIJ Contemporary Strats, metal-type guitars which are also pretty remarkable. So, 11 Fender Strats and 2 Schecter Strats in total. A bit out of control!! OMG

If nothing else a Strat makes one hell of a snow shovel. Snow is just frozen waves right? Smile

You guys just gave me a idea - I might take the loaded pickguard out of my Eric Clapton Strat I never use and put it in my Vegas Gold Strat to see what that gives me. I want to put some pipes on this Strat for some serious Dick Dale tone string wise anyway. hum - thinking Whatever

If you look at all the serious players out there, they made changes like this or build up a guitar from parts or various guitars to get a the edge playing and sound wise.

Well, that was wankin. Duh

One of my all-time favorite surf performances on a Strat is Los Twang! Marvels on Brazilian TV back in 2013 - though their 2009 appearance at the Surfer Joe was pretty amazing, and I was there for that - one of my favorite shows I had ever seen by anybody! Alex playing a late-'90s American Standard Strat (though with different necks) for both gigs.

No, but I had a pre CBS Strat in Candy Apple red. The neck date was late '64 so I guess that sort of counts. I still have the hang tag and the back side tremolo cover.

It's just so hard to concentrate on guitars when you watch a Los Twang Marvels video.

yeah The Strat player has some really thick strings on the Low E, A, D. strings The G, B High E look kind of normal size to me. Anybody look that up to see what strings he's running?

Are you talking about Los Twang! Marvels' guitarist, Alex Faide? He used 12-52 gauges.

Wow, Ed!! What happened to that Strat? Don't you wish you still had it?

Anyway, it seems like you're usually comparing your US-made Jazzmasters to Mexican Strats - and that don't seem to be a fair fight! Big Grin Maybe you could pick up a nice US-made vintage-style Strat at some point, too! (I DON'T expect to happen, I should mention. Laughing )

The LTM Brazil show is so perfect in every measure. World class, mind blowing guitar work and the band supports it all so well. I am always intrigued by Yolanda as she is the splitting image of a woman that I went to school with and over the years would have the pleasure of sharing a drink and laugh with. Just love watching the videos again!!!

One thing is certain Ivan, if I still had that candy apple red Strat, it would be worth way more than any of the other guitars in my "Kollection."

What happened to it was the Jazzmaster. I had seen that Strat in the window of Ideal Music in downtown Atlanta in early-mid 1965. My original 1963 Gibson SG had been stolen and I was on the hunt for a new guitar. Shortly after I scored the Strat, our rhythm guitarist, Tom Riddle was looking for a high school graduation present for himself and was trying to find a Jazzmaster in CA red to match my new Strat. That turned out to be a futile search as he was; 1. a bit impatient, and 2. the custom colored guitars were in short supply at that point, almost impossible to find, and ordering one, if I remember correctly, would have taken about three months. He "settled" for the sunburst Jazzmaster (that he let me have years later...and Woody gave it a lot of love too for a while), and with his brown face Fender Super amp, his rig nailed the early Ventures sound. I lusted over his guitar (and amp) until several of us were lucky enough to get into the Nashville DJ Show where Fender had a big display. One of the guitars on display (and I got to play it) was a candy apple red Jazzmaster. The rest they say is history. I was standing on the steps of Metro Music the following Monday morning after the show. When they opened the door at 9:00, I walked in to Bill Bicknell's office and ordered one. I think I got about $200 trade-in for the Strat on the Jazzmaster. It's around someplace.

It probably sounds silly but I'd much rather have my original '64 Super Reverb amp. Even back then I thought my '63 SG Special had been a better guitar.

One exception to all this was a band here in Atlanta called Okalona. The X-Rays were lucky enough to play a few shows with them years back and their lead guitar player (and I don't remember his name) had and played, a Strat from the first production year. It had belonged to his late uncle and I was fortunate enough to spend a few minutes playing it in the dressing room prior to our going on stage. It sounded incredible, unbelievable actually. It played as well or better than it sounded. Maybe one the ten best guitars I've ever played.

I've never come across a guitar that I thought was better than the '68 Les Paul Custom I've been lucky enough to own all these years. It's number one in my mind. Refinished twice, broken in half once and the only original parts are the body, the selector switch and the output jack, but I've never found something I've liked better.

It's all in what ya like I guess. I mean it's so subjective. I do still have an olympic white Mex Strat here and I use it on recordings, mostly to change up the rhythm parts sound with but when I pick up one to noodle on first thing in the morning, it's almost always an offset.

Cheers,

Ed
