I'm with the floaters. I did try flat originally, but found floating to be way more expressive and fluid.

My favorite is still the STETSBAR. (One might call that a hybrid) most accurate and controllable. With those I can spring an octave down and a fifth above. There are some other interesting set ups that I have acquired but not installed yet. I have a floating whammy on my fretted five string bass that I love and it has bars on the B STRING SIDE AND ON THE G STRING side.
