Permalink NEED Recording Studio NC SC-Surf CD mixdown

New Topic

All,
Jim and I are trying to finally get our 2nd cd for Agent Octopus done before June. We are looking for a friendly, relaxed, and if possible great vibe studio to mixdown, add a few extra guitar tracks and finish up about 8-12 songs over a weekend. We hope to find something between Orlando,Fl and Annapolis, MD, preferably in the Carolinas. We were trying to get booked at Fidelitorium in Kernersville, NC, but Mitch is booked through June. Let me know if you have any suggestions. Please don't suggest "we mix ourselves"; it kind of defeats the purpose of getting away for a weekend, some place cool, just doing music and not doing the "heavy lifting" (Mixing).
Thanks,
Art

Sounds like exciting times for Agent Octopus.

I have two recommendations based on my personal experience and one based on a few other factors. I'm happy to answer additional questions (studio specifics, stuff to do in the area, etc.), but this should get you rolling. Not sure of your budget, but if you were looking at the Fidelitorium, I'm sure these will all fit. Based on your description of what needs to be done, here's my recommendations in order of preference.

Overdub Lane - Durham, NC
http://overdublane.com
Wes Lachot-designed studio. John Plymale is the producer/engineer you want to work with. Amazing ears and perfect combination of laid-back and able to keep things moving along. Great environment. Durham is a very happening place these days with enough breweries, bars, and restaurants to keep you busy for a week.

Hondo Creek Recording - Pittsboro/Chapel Hill, NC

I have not recorded here, but I have heard the results people are getting and VERY impressed. The studio is beautiful and built from the ground up (also designed by Wes Lachot). Mike Nicholson is the producer/engineer. Rates are crazy low. The studio is about 5 miles from El Mirage's rehearsal space. Wink

Electromagnetic Radiation Recorders - Winston-Salem, NC
https://www.emrrecorders.com
Totally nondescript building brimming with vintage recording gear. The space itself is pretty low-tech, but owner/operator Doug Williams knows how to get the most from it. W-S has kept pace with Durham in terms of cool new places to eat, drink, and hangout between sessions.

Hope this helps! Let me know when you're planning to be in town and we can arrange s meetup / jam session if interested.

Murph,
THANKS!!! Appreciate the input and will check into all of these. Man, this is what I love about this site; we all help each other. Will schedule meet up if we decide to go that way. You da man!
