Wow - that's really cool! Thanks for posting that, Bill.

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Cool! Killer tunes. And a great surf-band-type-sound. Laughing

Boss performance! Congrats!

Great video. I noticed two things in particular:

1) Bill -- did you forget your tie??? Tsk tsk tsk...

2) That's a great "band picture" they showed of you guys - it was fascinating how much you looked like The Trashmen!!

Just some good-natured ribbing, of course. You guys REALLY ripped it up.

~B~

Wow, sounds great. Two things...

They normally expect you to mime for that kind of thing here - were you, or did they actually manage to get the sound that good in a TV studio? If it was really the live sound then they are more on the ball there than here. It looks like the drums are mic'd......

Secondly, You guys looked really unhappy, or is the deadpan part of the act?

'Surf-band-type-sound' (in a suprised voice) ... that was funny...

Youth and enthusiasm are no match for age and treachery.

awesome clip

Thanks guys. The dead pan thing is our schtick, but we had been up late the night before playing a few frat rock songs with Eddie Angel at the local rockabilly night. I had about 2 hours of sleep at that point so our look of a lack of excitement had many things contributing to it.
Those songs are going to sound better on the album

The first one is "Spitbath", the second is "thy old Smugglar", the third is Denis Brochu's "Altered State Trooper", and the last one is "Meat Wagon".

Yeah I did forget the tie, but I bought the other guys ties so I had just as much invested into it as they did. Yeah, I dunno what was up with the Trashmen picture. Maybe Matt remembers more about this morning than I do. Laughing

Bill, wow. You were great before but you've gotten a lot better since the last new stuff I've heard from you. Anyways, I'm digging that "surf type sound". Was it your plan to sound like a mix between the Beach Boys and that song from Pulp Fiction?

Bill, you are 25 now? Damn. As good a surf guitarist as I've heard.

Very Cool! This is my idea of the perfect surf band sound - powerful, but not overpowering - nice control - way to go Bill and the rest of the'Nauts!

"You can't tell where you're going if you don't know where you've been"

i love it. awesome sound. your tone is probably the best surf guitar sound i've ever heard.

CUTBACK

I'll help Bill out here, just so we get the story straight.

First off, Bill does forget his tie occasionally, but I nor Alex can fault him for this. The problem with these ties is that they were probably made one hundred at a time by slave labor. Tying a simple knot with this thing is difficult enough, let alone a Full Windsor. Plus, our red cardigans and black ties are gettin' ratty looking.

Our "Schtick" is perhaps the last remaining one thoroughly untouched by any surf band that we've seen. I've been elected "talker" at any shows that we have, but the timing and amount of talking varies greatly depending on venue and patrons. Last Saturday, more talking than we've ever done, but Sunday, I must have said "Thank you" four times the whole set. Alex is basically the reason this works so well. Until you've seen him play live, you have no idea how good he is. Everybody becomes fixated on his playing, so Bill and I can sit back and stare blankly out into the crowd. I DO smile more than Bill, however, but that still ain't all that often.

On Thursday night, we were at The Big C Jamboree at Martyr's in Chicago. Happens the first Thursday of every month for those interested. We were signed up for 4th, but no bands came until later, so first it was. We played 4 originals and thought the night was over for us. We went outside to cool off a bit, and Eddie Angel walks up to us and asks "So what songs are we doing tonight?" So we're goin' back up in a bit as "Eddie Angel". There were a few songs tossed around, and Eddie said ok to any off them, so we decided on three screamers, Dirty Robber, Mashed Potatoes, and Justine. Eddie tells the crowd, "This isn't 'Eddie Angel, it's really the Reluctant Aquanauts". We all look at each other as if to say, "Wow, perhaps he's in the band now!" Everybody went nuts for Eddie, as you would assume. He was playing a Jerry Jones Longhorn that he uses with The Neanderthals, it is was screaming through Manny Guevara's (The Honeybees) 1x15" amp.

Needless to say, the night went long considering that we had to be at WGN by 7:00 the next morning. Bill and I just fell out of the door, with Alex right behind us. Bill's 2 hours of sleep is an optimistic guess. He and I had less than that for sure, and I know for a fact Alex didn't get to sleep that night. This wasn't out of anxiety or nervousness, we just knew that we'd each be draggin' ass the next day if we didn't start consuming coffee at 4:30 in the morning. Well, it must have worked, because the WGN thing felt good and went well for us. We knew this was just the beginning, 'cause Saturday was for sure gonna be fun, long, and humid...

Aww shucks Jake... thanks a lot!

As Matt points out it was worth being a little tired for the WGN spots. We kind of got bambuzzeled with our time slot at the Big C Jamboree the night before but Eddie Angel was really cool and stayed out later that night than he had planned to play those songs with us. Which was really cool of him to do that.

I'll echo all the other comments - EXCELLENT! GREAT playing, and I really like the new songs. I'm very much looking forward to the next CD. The tones of all the instruments were simply superb, too. And I should mention that Matt is a really great bass player (not to take anything from Bill and Alex, but it's not as common to see such good bass playing as it is to see good guitar playing and drumming). Congratulations, guys, that was very, very cool.

Hey Bill,

This is the first time I've "seen" Alex play and I have to say he's obviously spent a lot of time playing jazz. He's very relaxed and, like most jazzers, uses his wrists and doesn't use a lot of unnecessary motion. This is probably meaningless to most people but from a drumming standpoint, it shows a great player.

Thanks Kyle... that Jaguar now has Tony Andreson and Dal Winslow's names tattooed on the back of it.

...and Shawn you're right about Alex... The man was a jazzer in highschool

Wow, guys, GREAT JOB! I'm really happy for you! Congratulations! Excellent performance!

Bill you did look a little tired, but hey that is completely understandable under the circumstances!

Must have been a great weekend for you guys: playing at Exotica several times and appearing on TV!
