You can listen to me play on Soundcloud. Just search The Beach City Blasters (TM). If interested message me. Do not post a response here'cause I won't read it due to the judgemental crap people post.
I am now looking for a likeminded band.
I'm 40 and currently only play first wave. If you don't know what that means don't even bother calling. I own a Fender Bassman Stack, Fender Modshop '63 Bass, reissue '64 Mustang Bass and a Danelectro Bass. I actually practice during the week on my own before getting to rehearsal!
In college I graduated from an Applied Music Program in Pipe Organ studies so I am definitely not an average joe when it comes to music.
I dont play any other genres anymore so don't call trying to change my mind. I assure you u wont succeed. I'm just that passionate about Surf Rock because it is part of my culture and lifestyle. I am open to writing originals as long as they are within the first wave style.
✌

I feel your pain, it’s like trying to find three wives to find a band! All you can do is exactly what you’re doing, getting the word out and not giving up.
I found the greatest drummer, a dream of a drummer and human, on CL in November. Best of luck with your future outfit!

My advice is to include your hometown (Anaheim, CA) in the topic space.

As someone who's played in bands most of my life, I'm going to offer some unsolicited advice. Surf music is almost surely permanently relegated to the hobby level of music performing, i.e. there is no financial reward to be gained. What I've found is the glue that holds the band together is twofold. A love for the music that you're performing, and a love for the people you're performing it with.
The tone of your two posts are full of red flags to someone considering joining a band with you. There's an inflexibility and sense of a huge ego to be reckoned with. I'm sure your intentions are good, you really love trad surf and want to play that style. But unless you're paying people to play with you, you will have to find subtler ways to achieve your goals, while signalling that this is going to be a fun and worthwhile endeavor for people to invest their personal time and money into.

What percentage of people form bands in the manner described by the OP?
This approach sucks.
But it makes me appreciate my scenario even more. Thanks for that!
Hang loose bro!

Agreed, Danny. I'm way too old for bootcamp and want to play for enjoyment. Unless there's money involved, and serious amounts thereof, no one is going to want to take on a band that is inflexible and demanding. I'm pretty intense about my music, but I realize that everyone has to have fun, or the band will splinter quickly.

I will let you play with me surf music that I consider to be “first wave” and may be even let you compose some tunes that I will say to be “first wave” or not

Jesus give the guy a break! He knows what he wants and is fed up. Have none of you ever been there? I immediately read that this post was written by a passionate person, and I imagined where these “controversial” words would have come from. The answer was “a place similar to where I have been,” and I went no further with negative thoughts (like you all did!).
From where I’m sitting, you guys are just “out-attituding” the dude here. It didn’t start that way though. It was a genuinely thoughtful post by Danny (which I agree with), followed by all this near-bullying. The thread is about this person’s search for a band, not how you all feel about where his language took you.
Listen Alcanti - I think you should keep doing what you’re doing, including the “filtering” want ad. That means if someone can’t get past the ad, they won’t be a compatible band mate. These ads are the best since they “trim the fat” of people who just want to play (and have no clue how to be in a band, or just folks who are less serious). This one is way too personal but it made it crystal clear what’s being sought, and I appreciate that.
My recent want ad was far less personal but very “filtering,” and I found my forever drummer. But that was CL. I do agree that this forum is not the best place to find a band, but you never know!

I was there when I was 18. Not in my 40+
But I agree with you that it’s a free world. The point was that some guys here (and me) think that this is not the way to find band members for a surf band that is a fun mostly and not a stricktly structured business in 99% of cases. Just a kind advice to think it over.

Odds are low for sure, but it was on this forum I found my "forever drummer" (though he'll roll his eyes if he saw that) Tony in the TomorrowMen and now Combo Tezeta.
