Nice work, Ivan. I really liked the reverb on that first song; what were you using for a reverb unit? James Calvin Wilsey would have been proud of you.

It works. I have to say, the Surfy Bear is a great sounding reverb.

Ivan,
Thanks for the up close on 'Black Sand'. Even at that, your fingers are a challenge to follow. I got the chords watching Mark and Catherine on the S.C. videos.
Take care of those fingers.

John, a fellow posted this on Facebook, maybe it would be helpful to you?

Ivan,
That made tracking your fingering a lot easier.. thanks for the tip. You really ought to think about a book with DVD and tabs. Your early stuff is really unique.

I'd love to see a video for the title track from Ancient Winds- possibly my favorite surf tune ever.
Thanks!

Deal with reality, or reality will deal with you.

Hi all again! It appears I've neglected this thread a bit, sorry about that. But I did record some more videos this year, and finally posted a couple more on YouTube: "The Apes of Wrath" and "The Jewel of Duende" by the Space Cossacks. Hope you like!
(BTW, I invite you to subscribe to my YouTube channel, which will get you immediate notices when I upload anything new - which I don't do all that often. You can see all my uploaded videos here - lots of me playing the Shadows! Big Grin https://www.youtube.com/user/ipongrac/videos )

These are fantastic Ivan! I must say the tone on the Jade Pearl Metallic is exceptional in the bridge pickup on the video. I can't see the volume you were running but tone wise I'm guessing about 3-4. Really nice videos!

Thanks again! Yes, I think the volume was right around 4 - LOUD under any circumstances, but especially when sitting right next to it! Big Grin

BTW, you might be interested in knowing that this Jade Pearl AmStd Strat just had a fairly big mod done. When I played it in SoCal for the DD tribute at the SG101 Convention in August, it started acting up and wouldn't stay in tune. I took it to my tech at Elderly recently and he found out that the trem plate fulcrum points have worn out! Shock So, we discussed what to do, just replace the trem plate or get a whole other unit, and ultimately decided to do an upgrade on it. I bought the UK-made Wudtone trem, which is getting RAVE reviews everywhere! My tech just installed it and I'll be picking it up next week. He wrote: "The Wudtone is a better bridge than any one fender has made, in my opinion." (the bridge saddles are the original Fenders, though.) Here's a pic, though it looks basically the same. But I can't wait to try it out!

You sounded great at the convention too

Nice Strat . . .what year was that machine made?

Thanks! It's an 2012 American Standard Strat in Jade Pearl Metallic. The stock pickups are Fender Fat '50s, which I think sound pretty great.

Ivan, so your luthier filled the two large post holes and mounted the new vintage style trem? I had the fulcrum points wear very quickly on a wilkinson two point trem. It went fast. I will have to monitor the situation on the rest of my two point trems. Luckily the heavy lifting gets spread around but this is still not good to hear. All my American Standards and American Deluxe strat are two point.

By the way, interested in hearing about the price on the Wudtone and feel after you play with it awhile.

It was not cheap - £136, at current exchange rate US$175 - and that's without saddles (you have to use the original saddles, which I didn't realize when I ordered it, but was just fine with, I like the guitar's originals saddles). The trem is an AmStd upgrade, so it's designed to be easier to install - see here: http://www.wudtone.com/product/wudtone-fender-american-standard-upgrade/?fbclid=IwAR2iNnQcOImMbDdfCB34v-3YZBsXduz4_4289zvSTj3EU6uOLJ7FRoRZ140
I was told the following: "the two outer screws are pre-sleeved. So you just screw those into the existing inserts in the body the same as the old pivot posts. This means the bridge is placed in the exact correct position anyway to guide you when you drill pilot holes for the four inner screws."
There you go!

Thanks for posting! I forgot what a "badass" (pardon my Czech) you are on guitar since I haven't seen you live in a few years. Really enjoy the SC stuff as it is close to my heart and Mark got me back into surf. Keep them coming; feeling inspired!

Have you posted Tsunami Tsurprise yet? I didn't see it on youtube but maybe I missed it.
