Permalink Just curious - what’s the center hole under a jaguar bridge for?

I am not a guitar techy dude, and I apologize if this has been discussed previously!

I recently pulled off the stock bridge of the avri ‘65 and saw that third hole. There was a weird metal cylinder with a spring sticking out of one side. It was “spring side” down, so all I saw was a metal circle. The circle was slightly below being flush with the surface, to remove I flipped the body over and it fell out.

I searched google and fender but found nothing about it...

I think it's for the mute assembly? Not positive though, I'm a Jazzmaster guy Smile

It's part of the mute assembly.

Would it be a good idea to install that same mute on a Squier Bass VI? I can drill, I can rout...
