Hey guys, we recorded ourselves playing the other night but the iPhone mic is just awful. I was wondering, how does the group Banned From The Beach record themselves outdoors and sound so good? They do not use a PA in the videos I am talking about.
Is there a single mic that I can buy to record ourselves that sounds reasonably good? Here are a couple of the videos I am talking about. For the record, I have tried to get in touch with the lead guitarist (gray haired guy) but haven't had any luck. The rhythm guitarist doesn't post here anymore.

We record our band live with a GoPro, and get pretty good results. Here are two examples from a recent gig:

My guess is that Banned From The Beach uses a similar approach.

Yes Go Pro gives good results, if you want the sound only hand recorders like this work well too :

The AT825 is a decent sounding stereo mic, and if placed well (close to the band) it can sound incredible. I use one as a room mic, even though I’ve now got a beautiful pair of Schoeps.
Biggest tbing is to experiment with placement, and get to know the pickup pattern. In an old small pracice space, I got a perfect mix of all the instruments but placing it between the kick and the snare, facing away from the drums. It picked up all the drums with its side and rear axes and the cymbals were not overpowering!

I'd go with dedicated auio recorder placed independently from the video recorder and edit the sound into the video. It's always possible the best place to record video is not a good place to record sound.
