We recently got an amazon echo, and I'm trying to figure out how to get it to just play some damn surf music! If you say "Alexa, play surf music" it dives right into the beach boys and jack Johnson. It used to play North Sea Surf Radio, but doesn't seem to anymore (something about the tune in app?)
Does anyone have any surefire phrase I can shout across the room to hear some music? (heaven forbid I stand up and put on a record...) thanks!

Try specific artists. Alexa will play Dick Dale for me, and on a whim, I asked her to play Reverbivores - AND SHE DID.

Hi Matt, try "Alexa... Play some INSTRUMENTAL surf music."
This got me Pipeline (The Ventures), Man of Mystery and Apache (Shadows), Wipe-Out, and more. No vocals.

I actually tried "instrumental surf music" and it played Apache twice! that tech is so close to being awesome...

Sorry, Matt, I soon realized that her selection was limited. It seems Alexa is only aware of about 10 surf tracks and then she starts to repeat. Bummer.
I usually use the Amazon Music app to create playlists of owned or "Prime" tracks and ask Alexa to play them.

Yeah, what's up with Alexa and TuneIn? If I say, "Alexa, play North Sea Surf Radio." she responds, "North Sea Surf Radio from TuneIn." Then she goes silent for 60 seconds, and says, "North Sea Surf Radio on TuneIn Live isn't available right now."
If I tell her to play NCPR, she (and TuneIn) work just fine.
Really, there are only two things I want the stupid speaker to do, play NCPR and play NSSR, and she can only manage to do one of them successfully.
Amazon apparently doesn't give a shit.
