Permalink The bridge in "High Wall" - what are the origins?

New Topic

I've been working on tabs for "High Wall", cherry picking bits from about seven different version of it. The tricky part will be arranging it for solo guitar.

The original appears to be by The Fabulous Wailers (no connection to Bob Marley) from 1959. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NGfNc0kkRwI (What is up with the percussion?)
The Dynotones https://myspace.com/dynotones/music/song/high-wall-27081888-26883073 (may not actually play)
Neither version has a bridge.

These have a bridge:
The Debionaires https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-DhYuxbJyg8 - @ 01:37
The Bambi Molesters https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D8UwIhYZBQ0 - @ 01:43
The Phantom Surfers https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkvBIr_VIcI - @ 01:45
Sleazy Mancini https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-PYpBYQmAD0 - @ 02:15 (I love the "Reservoir Dogs" look)
The Surf Raiders https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hNENVKzvd6A - @ 02:30, after the sax solo.
All essentially have the same bridge. (I guess that's what it's called.) It comes to nearly a dead stop, the bridge is played, then normal tuneage is resumed.

Now the questions.
1. Who started doing it with the bridge? (less important of an issue)
2. Was the bridge originally a song in it's own right, with a different title?

I'm not a complete idiot. Some parts are missing.

Welcome back!
