I think that one's gonna be a tough sell around these parts! Thanks for covering all the gear you do, though. |

Sounds pretty good to me. Nice playing in the video. —Deal with reality, or reality will deal with you. |

I agree, i think its exciting that companies are making attempts at that sound now though. A pedal like this could be a young players intro into exploring surf music. — http://dinosaurghost.bandcamp.com/ |

Thanks for the comparison video- that was really helpful. I checked out some videos of the Oceans 11 last night and liked what I heard- your video only confirmed that. Topanga sounded pretty good as well. I liked the Ventris but didn't like the trails, which you mentioned could be adjusted. Deal with reality, or reality will deal with you. |

Thanks for the comparison! The TC on its own came in as not great but good enough for a bedroom player. But, in the context of the group, only if your budget was really constrained. |

Quite a spectrum of drip there. imo the Oceans 11 runs away with this one. Topanga sounds good, and surprising how well the FRV-1 still holds up. |

I tried out an Oceans 11 yesterday and while it sounded pretty decent, I wasn’t blown away with it. It still didn’t sound as good as the actual spring reverb in my Peavey Bandit 112. |

I've been eyeballing the Topanga for awhile and I was (for no real reason) skeptical of the Ocean's 11. But after watching this, your deep-dive video and with an endorsement from RJ Ronquillo, the Oceans 11 seems to be the best, most versatile choice. |

I have to say that the Ocean’s Eleven seems to have bottled a bit of magic. It seems to have some real life to the sound. —The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

I have TC electronics hall of fame that I absolutely love! And I’m pretty committed to keeping my rig simple and clean, but I’m seriously considering adding the oceans 11 to my board. Those two pedals together would be a ridiculously great smorgasbord of verb! Also want to say that I love your 60 cycle hum videos! It’s great to see these products put through their paces in an actual surf setting! Keep it up! —www.instagram.com/_the.outer.limits_ |

I decided to revisit this thread, and the comparison video, today and see what impressions it left this time around. It occurs to me that, as with almost all things, these pedals are a matter of compromise. The Drip is a single-purpose pedal and priced accordingly. It didn't fare well in the comparison. Of all the pedals in the shootout, the Topanga and the Ocean's Eleven stood out as being the most authentic to the tank. The FRV-1 did well, but suffered from a metallic character to the sound which detracts mightily, IMHO. The Ventris sounded a bit hollow, but that may have been a matter of the settings. I've spent hours with a Ventris Dual Reverb and was never able to find a spring reverb sound that I thought came even close to justifying the price. It seems like it takes a lot of tweaking to obtain what the Ocean's Eleven and Topanga can do without any apparent effort. The tank, of course, was splendid. —The artist formerly known as: Synchro When Surf Guitar is outlawed only outlaws will play Surf Guitar. |

I'm surprised by the Oceans 11. If it were stereo, I'd be ordering one right away. I still might get one to have for general reverbs. I'm picking up a Neunabar Immersive MK II here soon for stereo reverb for an ambient board. But I've heard that the spring setting doesn't do drip so well. We have a lot of good choices and seems like something newer and better comes along every day. Great videos, Ryan! —All opinions expressed by this poster are well thought out and based on actual experience and/or scientific experimentation, except for those which are knee-jerk reactions or good sounding fantasies. |
