G'Day Surf Guitar 101, I just thought I'd introduce myself... my name is Andrew Zed but friends call me Zed. Im relatively new to surf guitar but at 50 years old I have been playing guitar a long time.
Im an electronics tech by trade and have been repairing music equipment and valve amps since I was 17. Currently I also work doing AV install and maintenance.
Surf guitar appeals to me as it's a new genre for me to try and theres plenty of songs to get started playing/ jamming without need for a singer. I love the ocean but sadly live 3.5 hours drive from the nearest beach.
This weekend I am hosting a jam at my place which will be the first time that the O.F.C (Old Fuckers Club) gets together. We have a lineup of two guitars, bass and drums. I'm hoping it will be great fun as the social aspect of playing is as important as playing to me.
We will have a BBQ, a few beers and our starting songs selected are- Pipeline, Theme from The Good The Bad The Ugly, Hawaii Five-0 and Tequila. It's not all strictly surf music but it will be fun enough.
If any of you folk can suggest songs that have a bit more to their progression than 12 bars, please send em on.
That's probably enough for now. Thanks to the organisers and Brian for making this forum available.
cheers
Zedmaniac

Hey tahitijack, its good to get a response so thanks. The best things I bring are a wicked sense of humour and a smile.
My motto is, if it feels good- FEEL IT!

Hey Surfersuarus, I will be checking out ya site pretty soon.
Today I saw a picture of you at a freinds place. Val Starr is very happy to have met you two weeks ago. He is a good bloke and I am very fortunate that today I left his house with a H+H Multi-Echo.
I can't see how to add a picture in this post so here's a link to facebook that shows our two mugs, the H+H and a very nice Echolette.

Val's fun videos and seeing you, Martin, play recently with the Mentals has been a great inspiration for me to get into surf guitar.
Bring on the Twang!

It was good to finally meet Val recently and hear a bit about the Canberra scene. I had an H & H guitar amp in the 70s, I have no idea what happened to it? (It's probably still in Perth somewhere!) I also remember using one for a session circa 1979 in London, I used it for the clean sound with a Strat.
Good luck with your music. Cheers, Martin
