Rapt In Blue is my recording project band.
This track was recorded and mixed by me in Garageband and Mastered with LANDR online.

Any feedback greatly appreciated.

I'd say it's pretty solid but some things I would suggest:

Condense it into a shorter form. I always shoot for 2 minutes, as that's about the traditional length of surf tunes. You did well at including a variety of sections but--in my opinion--3 minutes can start to drag.

Make a surfier sounding drum track! I always say this when people ask for input because I'm really picky about drums. Yours aren't bad--they just don't sound like surf drums to me. I'd be tempted to up the tempo a bit, too. But that is not necessarily a recommendation, as it's your song and your vision.

It might be cool if the ocean sound at the end was brought in sooner so that its final cut off coincided with the musical end.

Anyway, thanks for sharing and keep up the good work!

Thanks for the feedback and taking the time to listen.
Much appreciated!

That's a fun guitar sound.
Keep us posted as you record more and thanks for sharing this with us.

Cheers,
Jeff

Not a traditionalist, so keep that in mind while reading my input.

1) Length a bit shorter, but not 2 minutes - too short and the song will not breathe, maybe cut at 3 minutes and drop out 17 seconds.
2) Could use a rhythm guitar to help with flow. The bass is doubling the lead so often that the song feels like it stops or has a lot of pauses.
3) Bring lead down slightly, and I mean slightly down. I like the tone you have achieved here and the stereo effect.
4) Bring 2nd gtr at end up in mix and consider fadeout instead of waves.
5) Drums - I'm on the fence. This to me, sounds like a more modern surf sound (80s-90s), so different drum beat could be okay. The tone of the drums may need some help - they sound kind of muffled.

Overall I like the song, the feel and the guitar tone a lot. In the end make it sound good to you and take all or none of my suggestions as I don't have a hit record yet... Big Grin
