Permalink SOLD Fiesta Red Fender Jaguar with Musikraft neck

New Topic

I happened to get the building bug again and wanted to build another Jaguar because I had a Jag neck hanging around. Anyway, my very first Jaguar was a refinished April 62 in Fiesta Red with matching peghead, or headstock that I paid $400 for back in 1992 (yes, they used to be that inexpensive!), and ever since Fender Mexico started producing its 60s Jag in that color, I thought I'd re-create my first love. So, I ordered the ReRanch paint (fantastic stuff) and painted the headstock and it turned out perfect, too perfect, so, I relic'd it to make it like my original Jag. I also bought the AV65 pickups because I was going to build it from the bottom up with a new body (I had asked Sonichris if he still made them, but unfortunately he doesn't). But then I found a loaded body for a good deal, so I bought it. Then the body came in that I ordered and it was perfect, not a defect. So, I had a perfectly painted body and a relic'd headstock. No worries. I swapped out the tremelo with an AV trem, and there you have this guitar. I love Fiesta Red and all offsets of this color should have a matching headstock. But I don't need another Jag and thought I'd offer up this one for a great price to a surf guitarist looking for a good Jaguar. The AV65 pups that came with this are damned good. So, here you have a MIM Jaguar that's stock, aside from the upgraded tremelo and a Musikraft neck, which is better imho. I'll pass my savings on to the next owner and include the ReRanch paint in case you don't like my relic job and want to re-do it (I like it as it's almost identical to my original...but just the neck). SOLD

Next are the pups I never used. Still new in the box. SOLD

Finally, my old MIJ pups from my 1985 Jazzmaster (the "Tomsco" Jazzmaster) SOLD and yes, George Tomsco played this very Jazzmaster when they had the pups in it and before he signed it.

The glare on the body is from the light.

That is a handsome beast. It is nuts to hear how cheap offsets used to be, especially in the pre-Nirvana/Bush days. When I first started looking for a guitar at around the turn of the century I passed up a '65 Jaguar refinished in CAR for $500 because I thought it was too much for a guitar that had been refinished. I'd laugh, but I feel ill.

I've never played a jaguar before but damm that looks nice!

Why thanks guys. It was my first attempt at doing a sort of "relic" job. I don't have the courage to try it on the body, though. A headstock is easier to fix than an entire body...

It's amazing how much things have increased in price, Richard. I sold my '62 Jag in 1997 for $900 and thought I made a killing. I then turned around and bought my all-original'59 Jazzmaster for $1100. sigh

Here's that original Jag back in '96:

Here's that '59 Jazzmaster in 1997:

Everyone, Matt knows what he is doing. You need to buy this guitar. You need a Jag, they are wonderful things.

muchas gracias, Jake! Fiesta Red is one of the coolest custom colors and these Mexican models are pretty damned good. I just don't know why Fender went back to the '62 pickups rather than keep the '65 pickups, which in my opinion are superior.

Are they using up existing stock, or actually still manufacturing the '62 pickups?

That's a good question. I think they had a ton of them made already because the AV65's run wasn't nearly as long as the AVRI run.

Bump for this beautiful Jaguar. I did manage to find a hard case for it, so I'll include it in the sale.
