"Kyle's request" from the New Jury Room, 2004. The drugs kick in around track 9.
For some reason, to me the Mermen have always been synonomous to "Apocalypse Now". More than a few times their music has taken me on a bit of a visual flashback of that movie. It certainly doesn't hurt that Jim has some of the Col. Kurtz/Brando thing going for him. Pretty strong visuals to link to the music. I mean this as a compliment.
Mermen would be at home anywhere in that film.

A lot of Mermen fans upload live recordings to archive.org. Just passing along this email I received from another fan and recycling this thread for this purpose:
Hi I thought that you might be interested in my live recording of the Mermen's New Year's Eve celebration.
It is running over at the Live Music Archive and you are welcome to share it here for your members.
I might even be one but I forget if I ever signed up.
enjoy....

Thanx Brian! The Mermen mailing list is pretty darn quiet these days, so I hadn't realized that Mike had upped this to LMA. Yay! My love of the Mermen knows no bounds.

Note that there is an Insect Surfer(s) set included, the lineup being Dave Arnson - guitar, Martyn Jones - drums, Johnny Hamilton - bass, and Jim Thomas - guitar on Miserlou. Included also are The Shitones (a couple of incarnations), The Fabulous Field Trip and The Psychedelic Circus, with many tributes to Shig33. The common thread being the amazing Jim Thomas. Nice job Mike Martin! Stream it, d/l it, whatever, just listen to it.
