I've always thought of Daikaiju as the "Iron Maiden" of my surf music collection... It's great to learn about bands that I haven't heard yet.
Thanks!

Salud!

Don't forget this great comp from several years ago:

Yeah, there's lots of great heavy rock/punk/metal influenced surf out there! I wouldn't put them in the doom/black/death camp that folks were asking about before, but check out The Amino Acids for some great distorted/heavy stuff that strays pretty far from the trad sound while still being recognizable (to my ears at least) as surf.

For me it would be interesting to get a bit away from the typical surf music to more metal / Doom / Gore Grind / Grindcore / Deathcore ...
Is there some kind of Black Surf already?
Who knows good bands with such a sound?

Coffin Haze: https://coffinhaze.bandcamp.com/

The Surfzums: https://thesurfzums.bandcamp.com/

this is a breath of fresh air for me. I'm probably in the minority here, but this suits me a lot more than the trad sound.

I am also in the minority probably. I also thought, yes, sounds frsh and good! Power!!!!!
These days I listen also a lot to Triptykon´s albums. If you like reeeally dark stuff, check this amazing production. Are you able to listen from beginning to the end?:

Love it!

In general, I’m pretty anti double bass. I always feel like it’s a crutch for lazy/uninteresting drumming. Fills, and small parts, sure, but don’t overdo it. So, you lost me right away with that one. I like
In general, I prefer my metal a little more melodic.

I don´t feel I lost you.
I guess you lost yourself.
Melodic or not, double bass or not, who cares?
I like intensity in music, don´t care which style.

I try to be open minded.

Twang cheers!

I don't feel lost at all. I know what I enjoy and what I don't. Just because I don't dig something doesn't mean I'm not open minded, I gave it a fair chance.

I appreciate the suggestion, I really do. There's room enough out there for all kinds of stuff. I don't have to get down with all of it, and neither does anyone else.

Good.

Long live Surf.

Twang cheers!
