Permalink JBL D130F speaker FAQ's and fun!

I reconed a K130 which has replaced the D130 in my tone ring cabinet. I used the Simply Speakers kit. It sounds like a D130 to me. I'm happy with it. I really don't think reconing JBL's is anything to get all worked up about. The kit I used looked identical to the factory cones, other than the kit comes with a kapton former, & as I said, it sounds like a D130 to my ears. I will be ordering the same kit to recone my D130 eventually, but there's currently no need to pull my reconed K130 out of the cab.

Good to know Bob! ^ I'm sure I'm being far too weird about this.

According to Weber, here's the parts list for a paper cone JBL re-cone.
Voice coil: vcJBL_8 $11.55
WC15A Paper cone $11.55
DCA4 (aluminum $4.47) or DCP4 (paper $2.37) for the dome
Spider: SJBL $2.09
gasket: G15 $3.94
tinsel wire x 2 $1.58

Total parts cost: $33-35 depending on dust cap.
Shipping is about $12

If you choose to use the cloth surround cone, add $5

It sounds like a fun project to me. And I have good speakers to compare the finished one.

Tom Colvin from the Speaker Workshop in Ft Wayne did my D130F re-cones, can't speak highly enough about his work.

Harvey Gerst explains the development of the D130 and what D130F means:
