Permalink Weird Guitar Sound on Ventures in Japan 1965 album.

Does anyone know how did they get that weird guitar sound in "Bulldog" on the Live In Japan '65.

It starts at 1:28

Thanks

During the solo, right? Sounds kind of like Nokie's picking as close to the bridge as possible, but I might be wrong.

-Warren

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

How about on Yellow Jacket (same album), what are all those clicks during each verse? It sounds like Nokie is trying to pull some kind or trick or something (I have no idea, actually) but the sound always ends up off beat. Any ideas what that could be?

alot of the Ventures recordings sound weird to me,
I think it may be the lack of Reverb.

What i think about the bulldog track is that maybe he muted the strings with something (maybe a peice of paper?) and just played it normally?

no he's playing behind the bridge: the mosrite bridge is tune to the strings overtones and if you play the notes on the fret board and pluck behind the bridge you get those weird harmonics.this only works on the mosrite and not on the fenders

Really? Does anyone mind explaining that to me? Is this a result of careful bridge/tailpiece distance?

there is a film called "the beloved invaders" watch when he plays bulldog you can see him doing it.it dosen't look easy.but it looks like he's playing behind the bridge to get that sound
