bigtikidude
so what was on the 2 45 s in the 80's

One was California Fun! b/w (I Think I'm) Surfing Japanese on Rockhouse, issued by Bomp. Got it right here...

Just for completist John Blair collectors (and strickly non-surf), whilst corresponding with John in the late 1980s/early 1990s he mentioned that prior to The Nightriders he had appeared on a couple of bluegrass albums!!

Can't remember what they were though!

Didn't he also play rhythm on a Ray Campi album?

-Warren

That was excessively violent and completely unnecessary. I loved it.

Yes, he mentioned that also if I recall correctly.

Whats the latest with John's reference book, "The Illustrated Discography Of Surf Music"... anyone have any information?

I received a copy direct from John probably something like 20 years ago! I know since then he had a similar "Illustrated Discography Of Hot Rod Music" published...

I think the plan was then to combine them both together at a future date, anyone know if this actually happened?

Quote from Ray, copied from the Rockabilly Hall of Fame website

"Jimmy Lee Maslon had returned to our new hotel in Holland after his visit to France and was to appear with me and the Finnish band on one of the most important shows we would do.
This two-day festival featured many bands including my friend Jon Blair, who years earlier recorded and performed with me on a few of his songs he had written. His Nightrider band now played surf music and he was well known for it."

PS mrski, Jon send me his surf"bible" in 1992 with a very kind personal letter. Nice guy!

Here are some Answers John sent me in a e-mail to the questions above. Jeff(btd)

Briefly, yes, I did play with Ray Campi & His Rockabilly Rebels for a
short
time back in the late 70s. I was on 2 or 3 of his LPs on Ron Weiser's
Rollin Rock label.

As for the two discographies, the 3rd edition of
the "Illustrated Discography of Surf Music" is the most recent and the 1st
edition of the companion hot-rod music discography is the most recent.
Both were published in hardback by Popular Culture, Ink. in Michigan, but
are now out of print. I AM going to publish updated editions of each,
separately or combined, at some point in the future. It's not if, it's when. I just don't have a schedule right now.

Thanks for those answers... really appreciated...

All we need to find out now is when are the early Nightriders albums going to be reissued on CD?

Surf Beat '80
Live @ The Whisky
Charge Of The Nightriders...?!

Has Stampede already appeared on CD? I have a vinyl version...

One other thing I remember regarding my correspondence with John relates to the 'Live @ The Whisky' album... I recall John stated, (if I remember correctly), that two shows were recorded, each show featuring the same set list, ie. apart from another version of the same song, there were no other tunes performed...

(I suppose this means no bonus tracks for a CD reissue?!)

That's great to hear and I'm really looking forward to the new editions!

That would be great!!!

I just don't have a schedule right now.

Well, I hope he'll let us know when he does! By an odd coincidence, I'm going to buy copies, I just don't know when I'll find copies to buy.
