Amazing show! That is my arm photographed in the lower left! Laughing
Loved how Oleg worked with the dynamics of the tank. From subtle drip ticks to crashing smash all in the same phrase.

The Boss Martians / Messer Chups show in Seattle was off-the-hook!! Came home with two Boss Martians 7", a Messer LP, a Messer t-shirt, a Messer tour poster, a hangover and memories forever. If you get the chance, definitely catch one of the remaining shows!

Yes. Oleg is a real specialist in surf music. He is doing nothing else since years and you can see it and hear it imo.
Oleg and Evan Foster are the best two modern surf guitarists. ...yes, maybe it´s a bit simple and maybe stupid to say "the best"... but for me they both are surf guitarreros with special skills.
If you hear them you know they are playing. This is the proof for a good guitarist for me. They have a special own character in their playing.
They are able to compose a lot of good songs. They are playing live a lot.

Twang cheers!

Last night at Alex’s Bar, Long Beach.
Fabulous show with the Boss Martians opening. Two world-class bands with totally different approaches to playing surf music. One thing I really dig about Oleg more than any other guitarist in the idiom is his control of dynamics. The band has to be seen live to appreciate how subtly he can pick. The band keeps getting better.

I fully agree. Evan is a beast! His playing is flawless, his energy is limitless, and his stage presence is without peer in our genre. He is hands down the best front man in our scene. He is such a great musician, it is always a treat to watch him. The whole band sounded incredibly tight last night. It was an awesome set!

Oleg has always been one of my all-time favorite guitarists. I know his writing and sound been going further and further down that rockabilly road in the last few years, but I still love how he plays. He is constantly using his vibrato bar, always modulating and accenting his playing with it, which gives his playing a very unique and identifiable expression. Like Ralf said, when you listen to him, you know it's him playing. I tend to grab my vibrato bar a lot when I play, sometimes its just instinctive and I wonder why I did it afterwards. But I think it's Oleg's influence.

Last night's MC set was awesome. It was much better than their tour last year.

I’m picking up more detail in Oleg’s playing but can’t tell if he’s getting deeper or I’m just learning his musical language through repeated exposure. Last night I was digging on the cool scintillating space Messer Chups open up in their music, darkly glimmering with many grotesque creatures popping up to voice their presence and disappear again.
I really appreciate Oleg’s avoidance of a lot of surf guitar cliches in order to lay down funky grooves rooted in hick jazz idiom of the presurf days. I can tell he listens to George Barnes (Purple Monster quoted in Gotham City, I think). He’s what they call a ‘meloman’ in Russian slang, from ‘melomaniac’ - term describing a music nut (like Lux Interior)
who studies a form exhaustively to pull out overlooked treasures.

This Sunday, 5-8 in LA,
Added show to the tour.
