Permalink Petition Music Choice to Add Instrumental Surf Music

New Topic

About a week ago I contacted Music Choice (They are one of the music services on cable and satellite.) and I asked them to consider add the instrumental Surf Music as a genre.

Your text to link here...

Broadband Radio Network at 888-266-4229

I think it is unfortunate that this genre is not being heard by more people. Maybe if enough people contact Music Choice they will include it.

Your thoughts?

If you created your own internet surf music station I think you'd reach considerably more people than Music Choice.

Music Choice reaches people all over North America. I flip through the selections as do most people who maybe be looking for music. I generally select jazz, funk, blues, songs and classical. I think that people would stop if they say the label surf rock. The jazz listeners I know like variety and novelty and surf has that. I think some of them would become fans if they only knew about it. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.

I have thought about an internet radio station and maybe record several shows and repeat them since I don't have time to do much else. But a surf oriented radio station would probably only be heard by existing fans. I could be totally wrong in my thinking but I think there is a bigger audience. Surf can be primitive and sophisticated and it has an appealing sound. I think it's worth a shot pushing it closer to the mainstream. If corporate types think they can make money from it they'll push it but corporate are often not forward thinking enough to recognize the potential.

I was not aware of modern instrumental surf until about ten years ago until I got a call to play bass in a surf band. I quickly added surf to the music I liked. I think others would do the same especially people into other instrumental music like jazz and fusion.
