Agreed - I use both a lot. ProTools is better (by far) for precise editing, and of course if you want to capture the tone of your amp & pedal rig, you can't beat it. For quick stuff, I always go to GarageBand because it's fast and easy. I plan to spend some time tweaking some amp models to get sounds closer to my amps just for fun ... and to see if it can be done

So, yesterday I’ve spend a couple of hours testing guitar sound through different setups with Focusrite Scarlett Solo and Garageband on Macbook
- My pedalboard (booster, overdrive, Surfytrem, SurfyBear) to Quilter Superblock US, then Cab with Celestion Vintage 30, mic and Focusrite and also without pedals. Surely different mic positions, microphone is a Focusrite large diaphragm condencer.
- Pedalboard - Quilter - line out with cab sim - Focusrie with and without IR Cab Impulses and with or without pedals
- Guitar directly to Focusrite plus Garageband or Bias FX amp and pedal simulations.
Guess what sounded the best recorded to Garageband?
Unfortunately I’ve deleted the tracks but may do this comparison again later.

We're getting ready to start booking some surf shows starting around May or so. Our new drummer is working out perfectly and we're aiming to learn 30 songs before going public.
Having a single guitar player in a surf band always leaves me wanting more...to fill in those empty gaps during the solos etc. Which is why I'm recording my own rhythm guitar backing tracks to play along with.
It's quite challenging since I started as a total newbie. Lots of frustration and mistakes over and over.
I've finally got the hang of it, somewhat
I tried Reaper and just gave up.
Then I gave Audacity a try and finally have a good knowledge of it and have since used it for everything.
I get by with few pedals to make it sound quite authentic. Best pedal of all is the Zoom MS50G. That one is worth every penny.

No mic'ing the amp. There's no amp involved.
The JOYO American guitar pedal emulates a Fender guitar amp and Fender cabinet. You can adjust the tone, EQ shapes, overdrive levels, etc. (Sort of like a cheap Quilter Superblock US without the power amp section.)
My pedal chain: Guitar - Tuner - Reverb pedal - Joyo American - Knockout EQ - Zoom MS50G - EHX Mimiq - IK Multimedia Axe I/O sound interface into my computer using Audacity software.
Various guitars/pickups for the "right" tones. I use a .7 mm pick for the electric guitar tracks and a .5mm pick for the acoustic guitar tracks.
The Zoom pedal has a wonderful acoustic guitar simulation preset which sounds fantastic

I am trying recording through Quilter Superblock line out, but cannot achieve good results. Garageband amp plugins just sound better on record(

I was extremely interested in buying the Superblock UK when they came out...the YouTube reviews are wonderful. I was only interested in the line out feature, not the power amp section.

I think I can get them, but cannot yet. It sounds great through cab, but I cannot catch this sound on record. But these are my first steps in recording, so I guess it’s just easier to record fully digitally and I need more practice and knowledge to proper recored miced or direct with Quilter. I record and compare, then change settings and do it again, hope it will lead me somewhere. But now digital amps sound better as for me, especially in mix.

I go guitar > reverb tank > mixer/Scarlett Solo (plugged into PC) > mic > amp. Having said that, I may actually use my Fender Custom Shop plugin for rhythm, it sounds pretty good! Btw, I use a DAW called Mixcraft. I really like it, it's easy to use and very professional.

Ain’t got it, sorry. Microphone goes into amp? Maybe reverb tank goes into amp and then through microphone sound goes to Scarlett solo and PC?
