Hi There,
I recently ran across an Amp that I'm seriously considering buying. However, to do so I'd need to sell my Ampeg Gemini II amp.
It's a good little amp but not widely used with our kind of music. I haven't even really researched how much these might be worth so this is more a fishing expidition to ask if there is a decent market for these kinds of things. (I buy houses more frequently than amps)
It also used to belong to one Rip Thrillby which may add some value for some folks. Or not.
Also, there's no guarantee I'll win the other amp should I enter the auction, so any feed back on the ability to move this may sway how high I'm willing to bid.

Spanky,
I've got a Gemini I and holy toledo these are amazing amps! It won't keep up with a Showman Amp, but at 30 watts and a 15" speaker it's loud enough for small club use. Plus fantastic reverb and tremolo. If I didn't already have mine I'd be figuring out how to get my mitts on it.
No great surprise to me that Rip had such sophisticated taste in amplification...
Take care,
Mel

I've been playing through my Gemini II since 1976. When I bought it, I didn't know anything about amps. I've also had several Fenders through the years and sold all but one (SF Bronco - like a Vibro-Champ). I realize the Gemini's not regulation-surf as far as that goes, but when I crank that thing with the reverb at 12:00, it sounds fantastic and after all these years, I guess it sounds like ME. It's never been not-loud-enough for my purposes, either.
Anyway, I've seen them go usually from $350-600 on the 'Bay, but are HEAVY ($$) to ship - like 65 pounds - and to lug to gigs. I wish there was a piggyback version of it.

There was an Ampeg Reverbrocket on e bay I really wanted. It's basically a smaller version of the Gemini II with a 12 inch speaker. Not real loud but awesome for recording. It hoovered at a pretty low price but jumped to over $600 which was more than I was willing to go.

Spanky,
I had a 1966 Ampeg Reverberocket II in college. It was my first tube guitar amp. They are great amps in their own right, but I'd have to say that the Geminis are better, both louder (30W v. 18W) and more features (multiple channels on the I, II and IV, treble boost). I sold my Reverberocket II to help pay for my Showman Amp, and years later went looking for another. I wound up with a 1963 Reverberocket I, also a nice amp, but not enough volume for my tastes. Last year I was able to trade it for a 1966 Gemini I, and I think I've got a keeper.

I have to chime in re: Mel's amp - it's sweet. Coolest thing is the vibrato goes from subtle to 'cri-i-i-im-son-and-clo-o-o-o-over-er'. Very rich, wet reverb too for an inboard.

Yeah, it's definately not something to rely on live. I want one for recording primarily.
