What is Spy Surf or Spy Instrumental guitar music I keep coming across. And what are some of the classic examples of this part of the surf/instrumental guitar repetoire?
Or are there any bands (particularly from the 60's) that had Spy and Space themed instrumentals as their focus.

Off the top of my head, would be the James Bond theme.

I'm not sure if it's considered a 'Classic', but I'd say that 'G Man' by Los Straitjackets fits the bill aa a good Spy tune.

For more modern spy sounds, look up the Infrareds. Also Jonny and the Shamen's album Adventure's in Espionage. And of course, The Penetrators.

Skeeter put up some excellent examples of classic stuff. The Man from UNCLE is also a great spy theme, but the original doesn't have much (or any) guitar. Man or Astro-Man did a good guitar based cover of it though.

Search YouTube for "Slacktone Spy Medley".

Forgot probably the most obvious one, after the James Bond theme.

The riff from "Watching the Detectives" by Elvis Costello is great spy guitar, IMHO. Yes, it's not an instro record but it was the gateway drug. It had me seeking more of the same. When "Surfbeat '80" and "Pray for Surf" hit in 1980, I was ready for 'em.

Here's the "Get Smart" theme performed by Agent Orange. It's practically a different song from other versions.

For '60s space themed instros, check out The Nocturnes "Third Star To The Left", and pretty much the whole Ventures In Space album.

For a more modern take, The Surfites "Escapades in Space".
