Who knew? Sullivan or whoever booked that show were pretty hip.

That is very cool!
It's like slightly post-eleki/psychedelic-eleki.

I was very happy to stumble across this. Eleki videos on YouTube are hard to find as they are usually listed in Japanese.

This video is noteworthy for several reasons;
The Ventures covered "Bleu Chateau" on their Pops in Japan album.
The guitars they are using (and probably the organ too) are made by Firstman, which is the company that became Filmore - maker of Japanese Mosrites.
They are actually playing live, not miming and you can really hear the Ed Sullivan Theater reverberation, especially on the drums. You can hear this same ambiance on all those other classic Sullivan appearances like the Stones and Beatles, Animals, Young Rascals, etc...
This has to be the only time a Japanese eleki act appeared on American prime time tv!

Fantastic! Nice rare gem.

I am not obsolete, I am RETRO.... Cool

Cool find!
The harp type instrument also featured in the movie Kung Fu Hustle, the first time I'd ever seen one.

Edit: The instrument is a Guqin or Chinese harp. Fascinating choice of twang to bring to America with them. Gosh did scuttle the thread again? Sorry!
