12 Incredible Bass VI Performances
A close relation to the Jaguar, Fender’s original Bass VI - a six-string bass with a floating tremolo arm - debuted in 1961. It was discontinued in 1975, but brought back in 2013 as part of both the Fender Pawn Shop series and in a more affordable Squier version. Each song is a great example of the deeply distinctive sound of an instrument that has now made a welcome return.

Cool article and timely for me.
I've been asked to bring my Squire Bass VI to a session tomorrow to play some Wichita Lineman type parts.
I don't do many sessions here in Nashville so it's neat that the artist wanted this.
Ivan, thanks for posting this.
Cheers.

They refer to Jet Harris's version of Besame Mucho. Here it is.

I'm probably biased by my 1996 MIJ Bass VI, but Fender did good when they added the fourth, bass cut, switch to the switch plate. IMHO, that's the magical part of the Bass VI, though I noticed that Peter Holstrom, of The Dandy Warhols didn't use it...middle pickup only. To use an e-bow with a Bass VI, like he did...breathtaking!

Thanks for the enthusiasm but it's no hush, hush, big time record.
Just another independent artist/friend in Nashville.
It was in a nice studio though with some serious players, my friend was kind enough to hire/include me.
The Bass VI was a success and as stated above - the strangle switch was key in getting the sound. Nice trem and verb added...it was classic 60's sounding. Very fun.
On another note: first "real" session out of my home studio using the Quilter 101 and it did really well. The engineer used almost no EQ at all on the amp and I covered a lot of sounds. The other guitar player had a nice boutique tube amp that required quite a bit more EQ to fit in the mix.
Some friends gifted me with this Bass VI so that made the experience even more fun.
Bass VI = good times!
Cheers,
Jeff

Love VIs!
Here are my '63 (fiesta red) and '64 (black), both 100% original and they get used a lot on recording sessions!

Sadly Souled American was never mentioned. A fantastic band out of Bloomington IL in the late 1980s on Rough Trade records. Joe Adduchi would fingerpick his 66 LPB Bass VI: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3DWzx79x8IE

Staytrem is open again and selling the bridge that corrects the intonation issues with the squier stock bridge, FYI.
