Permalink Am I the first woman to DJ a surf music radio show?

A friend is collecting women's firsts among her friends - a first being the first woman to do something. Although I have often been in a small female minority for things I have done, I have not been the first.

Then it occurred to me that I MIGHT be the first woman to host a surf music show on FM radio. I did my first Reverb Hour in September of 2010.

I would guess that some other lady was first, but maybe not. For the record, I would not include "internet radio" or podcasts.

Thanks for your help. Mary

Sorry, Mary
I think Amber Smith of Shakin Katz Radio, CHRW-97.4FM, in London, Ontario, Canada proceeded you by a number of years. She and co-host, John VanderTuin have been doing a show dedicated to surf, psychobilly, western swing, and cow punk since the 1980's.

Maybe the first U.S. woman to host a surf radio show... Big Grin

Best regards,
Fred

Using the term "narrowcasting", Mary might be the first. If Mary has been playing strictly surf music, not cow punk, rock-a-billy, country swing, psychobilly or other genres. I'd give Mary extra credit if she did not have a co-host. Sorry Amber Smith might not be the first. We don't want to over look Mom surfing in the line up and she actually surfs so a few points there.

Happy Sunsets!

That's cool - Amber sounds like someone I would like to meet!

i think cousin mary is it
