3-position switch here. I also dislike accidentally bumping the thing into an in-between position when playing. Not knocking people who use it; just not for me. Mr. Fender produced guitars that are basically Legos for musicians & if something was really catching on he'd respond - but the 5-pos switch on its own isn't as robust as the 3-pos; just my view. (Only mod from pure tradition is that bridge pkup is on its own tone control.)

I Guess Bridge 70%, Middle 20% and Neck 10%
Never use 2 and 4 positions, may be need a 3 position switch to avoid them

It just occurred to me that a 5-way blade selector could still be useful for those that don't want the 2 & 4 settings...there must be a way to make one of those settings incorporate the Bridge+Neck setting which would otherwise require an aftermarket push/pull knob potentiometer or an additional on/off toggle (such as what I did).
Since I use my Strat for surf as well as my cover band, I won't pursue this mod, but it might be well worth considering for the Strat 'purist' who wants to sneak in an extra "Jaguar" setting (using both B+N pickups at once).
