You could tell they were merely hipster if their definition of 'surf' included Best Coast and the Growlers. Also if they referred to 'indie surf'. Also that they couldn't actually play the guitar because it's not hip to actually suffer to build one's musical craft.

I think there are guys on this board you could walk by on the street and call a hipster and not know they were an undercover surf nerd.

A nerd builds his own guitar. A trustfunder buys one that he might have built at Bain Capital Guitar Center.

Squink Out!

Hey, I can't really play the guitar either. It's more like "Chippy smash!"

I'm pretty nuts about this guitar. Hardtails are cool, and I'm a sucker for olympic white bodies with maple necks; however, the thick poly finish is a deal breaker for me.

Dude, you can play the fricken guitar.
I decry only those that 'play at' guitar.

Ibanez has a new Talman out that is a near dead ringer for that tele. Made in Indonesia. MF and AMS have 'em for about 400. Recently went back to a real Tele, no need for the thing.

Enjoying the surf,sun and sand!!

If I had one, I'd whammy-ise it

Yes, and turn the volume /switch plate around. Or better yet use a stetsbar vibrato/whammy. I have put Stets bars on several of mine and whoooah...what a range of difference and it always comes back to tune.

Build one ...buy a body ... Color it the way you really want ... Find a rosewood tele neck or get an ebony custom (a stronger option) ... Use the best caps and potentiometers one can find ... Use the right wire.
Put a stetsbar on it and if you must...put a fender decal.

Sorry, just NOT my cup-o-(Tele)-tea!

It's me again. I went and played one of these at my local store for just a minute. I know my way around teles, jags, strats and jazzes.. and this guitar felt weak. Very long and awkward, wasn't fond of the neck shape, etc. And especially the ashtray bridge, very inhibiting for tremolo picking and fast passages. All in all, it felt like a really good squier.

The ashtray is standard tele hardware. You're right, it can be cumbersome, but that shouldn't have been a surprise.

That looks sick with the gold foils.

I've posted this before, but this was mine. It's currently apart, but I'm slowly accumulating parts to reassemble as its own beast.

Cool.
