Online story.
Reflecting on someone who was an influence for many, or certainly an influence on their influences.
Salud and RIP Scotty.

Rest in Peace, Scotty....you were an inspiration for me and many other neophyte guitarists of my generation. You, Bill Black and The King are now reunited. Rock on!

My first and constant guitar hero since I was a child.
If you don't own a copy of The Sun Sessions get one.
Lightning in a bottle, the initial spark.
You can "feel" the energy of discovery in the room, Sun Studios, The Memphis Recording Service.
This man will forever be a giant to me. He worked within his own limitations to create something that was brand new and exciting.
A Legend.
Cheers,
Jeff

Here's a nice video from Deke Dickerson that he filmed with Scotty Moore.
RIP

The article I read this morning mentioned an interview with him some time ago. He mentioned "Elvis economics". The first year of hits, Elvis became a millionaire. He received 8 grand. He mentioned that after Tom Parker, nobody was allowed to talk to Elvis. I agree with his affect on guitar players.

His remarks on that were alluded to in this AM's article as well. This is a well-known piece of Parker history; I'll stick to dwelling on Scotty's contributions - indeed, he and a handful of others were going places not previously trod upon. Obviously the attitude at Sun ("hey, sounds wild, I like it, go for it") didn't hurt.
I used to spin those 45's over & over as a kid, unobtrusively, which allowed me to be in the room with the big people (parents, aunts/uncles) at the monthly poker game while the "little" kids had to go to the toy room.

He was my first hero that introduced me to the air guitar (which eventually brought me to the real thing).

A genuine guy and every kind word spoken above is true.
Like Jeff said above : if you go to the original sun studio : it's a religious experience, you can feel it in the room.
RIP Scotty

Not only one of my favorites of all time, but one of the first I ever paid attention to.
In the mid 90s, I was lucky enough to meet Scotty, The Jordanaires, DJ Fontana, and Ronnie McDowell (who they were backing) at a show in the Chicago area. Considering what legends these guys are, the place was barely half-full and the balcony was completely empty.
All performers were doing autographs in the lobby post show. Everyone was really nice and patient with the crowd, who was definitely one of the most well-behaved ones I've ever been in. I was easily one of the youngest people there (in my mid-twenties).
I got autographs from everyone, and when I got to Scotty I shook his hand and told him he was one of my favorite guitarists of all time. He got a really big smile and just said "Thank you very much, young man". I'll never forget that. He was such a humble guy.
RIP Mr. Moore, and thanks for all the great sounds.
