I've read that the '65 Fender Bassman came with a pair of Oxford 12T6s. I've also read that the amp originally had Jensen C12Ns. Anybody know for sure? If you had the option of installing original period Oxfords or more recent Altec 417s in a vintage '65 Bassman, which would you go with?

I had several sets of the Altec speakers in one of my early black face Twins. I blew then up until I gave up on them. The Oxfords probably would have a smoother sound. My Alecs, always seemed a bit bright.
I currently have a pair of modern Twin speakers in one of my Bassman/Bandmaster cabinets. I think they sound fine. A little quick to break up as compared to the EV's that I have in most everything else, but at a reasonable volume, they are pretty nice.

I'd heard that he had a few piles of this and that in the warehouse/factory at one time or another and stuck in whichever type he had on hand at the time. Interesting 50's 8mm film footage here:
