Permalink How's your summer gig schedule?

Are you folks finding any increased interest in surf bands in your areas? The Royal Aces in Denver have an unusually packed gig schedule coming up for this summer...and we're not even good-looking or hip.

Our summer schedule is a little more than usual too!
Not a ton, but it's all killer, no filler!

Just played three weekends in a row- all money makers too. (Except for the Surf Museum- a freebie, but we sold CDs very well!) Also picked up more gigs by playing those gigs- also paid! Private-for-hire functions.

We have 3 lined up for July/Aug with the expectation of a couple of more. All 3 are outdoor festivals, which we much prefer in the summer to sweaty clubs.

Hot Rod show mid June with pinup girl competition right on stage while we play. July brings an outdoor festival and hopefully surf fest in August. Hopefully more!

If that's your killer-lookin' ride you don't need to be! Thumbs Up

Playing for Freddie in NYC July 2nd, then nothing. Sigh Trying to find gigs, but emails go unreturned.

Last year we did lots of carshows and rockabilly meetings. This year mostly mainstream festivals! Not more gigs, but larger audiences (we hope), more money (we wish) and cooler beer (we want) Big Grin
So yes, I would say there is a increase in demant for surf bands...

We've got a few great gigs booked for the summer, and a few more in the works.
In Aug we're opening twice for Dick Dale -- on Aug 24 at Darryl's House in Pawling N.Y. (yes that Darryl, though it's at his club, not the TV show!), and on the 27th of Aug we do it again at The Brooklyn Bowl.
Then on the following day we're playing with the great Messer Chups at the Kung Fu Necktie in Philadelphia.
We've got more shows in the offing this summer, but these three are definite highlights! Very stoked!

We may actually have our first show! We just started playing together. We only found a rhythm guitar player a week ago... It's kind of nice to have a deadline this early in the band.

That's great, keep us posted!
Deadlines can be motivating, for sure.

Our gig schedule for the summer is not so great but also fantastic.

Not so great: We have no local gigs at the moment. Family and work schedules are prohibitive at the moment, so we're recording, forward momentum.
Fantastic: We're playing the Surf Stomp in Atlanta in July, one of our favorite places with our favorite people AND we're playing the SG101 Convention. Wow!
Wonderful gigs that we're stoked about.

Surf music getting more popular - I think it is. We have a few new bands in Nashville, younger folks as well so there's a new audience. Whether or not this audience accepts us older guys remains to be seen but it's a good thing to have more Surf bands in your home town.

Cheers,
Jeff

My Facebook banner says everything. Smile (One other Madeira gig in late September, just past the summer cut-off, and potentially another one or two - also, one definite Troubadours gig (a private party), and potentially one public one.)

I also forgot that I have two gigs with Killers from Space this summer.

Very enjoyable responses to read, everyone. For the Royal Aces, after playing at one Denver venue a few weeks ago, the manager called and asked if we would play there every Saturday in July...and that was in addition to an already busy gig schedule. We'll need a lot of naps, but it'll be a great way to spend a summer, and clearly a lot of you will be having the same kind of fun.

Summer has been a blast so far and ITALY is coming up...
